I am looking for a manual on colt lightning pistols on how to put them together. I have several but they are all in pieces and I am looking to get them back together.

I trust that you mean Colt's model 1877 double-action revolver.
Among gunsmiths who have had any experience with them, the word is to never, ever take one apart. :scrutiny: :uhoh:
There is a book concerning gunsmithing 18th century old west firearms. I'm not near my own copy, but I'll try to look up the title - or maybe someone else will beat me to it.
In any case I wish you luck... You'll need it.

Was the first revolver I completely took apart when I was given it as being broken by a relative at14 or so (was that almost 50 years ago!) to replace the hand spring as I remember. I got it together with a new spring in a couple of weeks of trying. I used to shoot .38 short Colts in it after that!

They go together fairly simple, working after that................... Good luck!
I knew a Smith that could make them work, but after he had one working and it had sat on the shelf for 20 minutes the warranty had expired!

Understand that some pieces from one gun won't necessarily work in another one. These revolvers were individually fitted at the factory when they were built. Also, in recent years non-working model 1877 revolvers have become valuable, although not what working ones bring. Spare parts are also expensive when they are available. Whatever you have is worth some bucks.
