Carry rig poll - Who makes your everyday carry holster?

October 22, 2007, 08:04 PM
I'm interested to know what people are carrying their everyday guns in. I'm particularly interested to know if anyone is carrying in an Uncle Mikes or a no-name nylon holster, and how that works for you.

I put up a few, but I expect that if I see "other" shoot up I must have missed one.

Crossbreed works well for me. Both SP101 and Pro CDP II.

October 22, 2007, 09:06 PM
Kramer Speed Scabbard in black horsehide. I traded into this holster and the handgun that fits it, and it quickly became my favorite.

I am using a generic Uncle Mikes IWB for my Witness 10mm, while I am waiting for my S&W MP compact to get here. once that arrives and i get confortable with it and find a good holster, the witness will become a backpacking/ hunting backup gun.

October 22, 2007, 10:22 PM
I love Uncle Mike's for my P229. Once you figure out the right spot for it, you forget that it's there sometimes.

October 22, 2007, 10:39 PM

October 22, 2007, 11:10 PM
Blackhawk Serpa for my 1911. Possibly the most intuitive retention system I've ever tried.

October 22, 2007, 11:47 PM
dude, how could you leave milt sparks off the list? summer special is THE iwb holster for 1911s

October 23, 2007, 12:06 AM

October 23, 2007, 10:51 AM
Options are all the low end ...

why do you say that? How much should 8 oz. of horsehide cost? Is a $200 holster low end?

You must have one that matches your Ferrari. :scrutiny:

October 23, 2007, 11:25 AM
Milt Sparks! VMII & Summer Special.

October 23, 2007, 12:10 PM
No Milt Sparks, Del Fatti, or Alessi in the poll? That might be what lance22 was thinking of.

My primary is toted 90% of the time in a COM by HBE. So, I answered "custom." When I replace it, it will be replaced by a Milt Sparks VM2.

The other 10% of the time, a Don Hume OWB/pancake/high-ride dealie does the trick.

October 23, 2007, 12:19 PM
Rusty Sherrick and/or Ron Graham products

But I do have a few Hume JITs, when I need a holster quick.

Milt Sparks Versa Max II for now I just returned my Blade-Tech Tactical light IWB as it sat to low on the belt. Blade -Tech stated they will take care of the problem. I will see a few weeks. I hope so I like leaving the light on the rail.

Admittedly I left some out accidentally, but the poll only allows for 16 options anyway. ho-hum.

Seems Milt Sparks is popular.

When I want to wear OWB holster, I use my Lou Alessi CQC/S's.

When I want to wear a IWB holster, I use my Milt Sparks VMII's.

Lately, I have been wearing my G30 in my CQC/S and my 1911 in my WMII.

October 24, 2007, 12:07 AM
At work...carry in a Galco. When I am not at work, usually a Don Hume JIT Slide.

October 24, 2007, 12:13 AM
Alessi, or LAW Concealment Systems most days.

I like Galco and have a lot of them, just not day to day wear now.

Will be carrying a Blackhawk Serpa daily pretty soon with my M9 in it.

October 24, 2007, 12:25 AM
IWB , forward cant
[Down Under I believe is the name]

Others include Galco, Bianchi and original S&W and Charter Arms from w-a-y back when.

October 25, 2007, 07:02 AM
i have 2 carry guns and they have 2 different holsters my kahr k-40 rides in a don hume open top padle, and my xd sc rides in a grandfather oak kydex iwb holster. though i will be buying another hume and this one will be for the xd sc.

October 25, 2007, 08:35 AM
Milt Sparks VMII for both my 1911's. one for rail guns, one for "normal" Colts.

If I wear one of my Glocks, it is in the TSC Holster, by Threat Solutions IWB.

These days my competition holsters are from Comp-Tac straight drop Kydex holsters.

October 25, 2007, 10:50 PM
I prefer OWB, which for me means an Alessi CQC/S.

November 1, 2007, 01:55 AM
Marked Other...

1. uspc= bladetech
2. 1911=HBE
3. SIG 220= Kramer

November 2, 2007, 09:22 PM
Milt Sparks Summer Special, leather IWB.

Bought it very slightly used right here in the trader for a great price and I LOVE that holster. In combination with my alloy CCO it makes the perfect every day sidearm IMO.

November 2, 2007, 09:55 PM
Kirkpatrick Leather made all three of my holsters, and mag pouches. I've had one for over 8 years, and the others for less time.

$80 to my door......

November 26, 2007, 02:37 PM
I use Milt Sparks PMK holsters for SP101 and Speed Six revolvers worn on the belt, and Kramer pocket holsters for various weapons. I have other rigs I use less often than everyday.

November 26, 2007, 05:56 PM

dude, how could you leave milt sparks off the list? Versa-Max II is THE iwb holster for 1911s

There, fixed it for you. :)

Depending on which pistol, mine is held in a Milt Sparks VMII or Watch Six (1911s) UBG Striker I (Kahr P45) or DeSantis Nemesis (Kahr PM9).

November 26, 2007, 06:59 PM
Eric at HBE Leatherworks did an excellent job on my carry holster. Last I heard he was a year behind in orders.

November 27, 2007, 03:08 AM
Milt Sparks for my Sig and Kimber .45s.
But, I live in the desert and it frequently tops 120 degrees in the summer. That makes a big gun hard to conceal in dress pants and shirt. When its hot I go to...
Milt Sparks or Pager Pal for my Kahr K40.
And, Uncle Mikes pocket holster for my KelTec P32 that is carried as backup to all the above...

November 27, 2007, 04:13 PM

Gould and Goodrich IWB have been using it for years but it puts the Kimber right up against my spare tire and it doesn't feel good so I started wearing it OWB on the belt. I don't worry about it falling out because the spare helps hold it in place and it doesn't hurt as much as IWB.
Have an El Paso High Slide on order. Should get it tomorrow. Hope I like it.
I got a Concealment T today and it s**ks. The gun pulls down on one side of the shirt and is really uncomfortable and because of my size I have to do a same side draw instead of crossdraw like it is designed for. Good thing I can shoot right or left. Sorry for the long windedness.

In the back Milt Sparks VMII in Horsehide and sharkskin, same with the belt. I use the same thing for my SA TRP 1911 and my Colt

December 19, 2007, 12:21 PM
Because ordering something professional would draw unnecessary attention to myself (am SA ex-service living in the EU with its ridiculous laws and ideas regarding firearms), I transformed a Bianchi belt holster into a shoulder rig using a space age saxophone strap. The weight of a Mod 36 pulls the main bulk slightly behind the armpit, so it's comfortable and virtually undetectable. The snubby hangs butt down. This sounds bad, but I can actually draw with either hand thanks to the way it positions itself.

December 23, 2007, 09:34 PM
Just switched to Bianchi Black Widow from the Hume JIT. I decided I need a thumb break after an embarrassing faux pas ("thunk-clackety-clack" gun on floor).

February 26, 2008, 06:09 PM
I for the life of me could not find an IWB straight drop leather holster with a belt clip. So I had Black Hills Leather make me one.

February 27, 2008, 10:56 AM
Blackhawk CQC for my duty rig. Off duty is an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. I used to use a FIST which was HORRIBLE. I will never buy another of their products. Then I got a Com 2 (or 3?) from HBE. I don't carry my 1911 anymore since its having reliability issues. You'd think that Kimber would just replace the damn thing after it's third trip to the factory

February 28, 2008, 02:34 PM
I use a crossbreed for my XDs. Priced nice, good warranty and they are pretty comfortable for me.

February 29, 2008, 11:18 PM

My Dan Wesson Classic Bobtail (commander size 1911) rides in a Rafter S and my Kahr E9 rides in a custom holster made by a friend who does leather work on the side.

The quality of the Rafter S is very nice, I would definitely purchase another.

April 25, 2008, 11:28 PM
Leather - Was using Rafter S leather company until recently and now they've stopped responding to emails or delivering holsters. I'm considering going with the aforementioned DM Bullard, who is a heck of a nice guy, I've met him a couple of times at the Dallas Market Hall Gunshow.

Kydex - Comp-Tac, Comp-Tac, Comp-Tac. Awesome customer service, awesome bunch of guys.

June 17, 2008, 10:35 PM
I wear an Andrews Custom Leather holster. I bought the Hybrid Saddle Style without the thumbreak (and a matching double mag carrier). Exceptional craftsmanship, excellent design. This model is not a pancake holster. The seams are offset so that when the holster is under the tension of the belt, it doesn't squeeze the gun making it difficult to draw.

His catalog of holsters, pouches, belts, and other accessories is impressive, containing some innovative setups. He does Cowboy rigs as well as custom work. The guy is absolute hoot to talk to on the phone. Great customer service. He hand makes the products himself, but the wait is more than worth it.

1. First and foremost: SmartCarry
2. Secondary: Gould & Goodrich

3. Miscellany: HBE, Don Hume, Safariland, Andrews, Milt Sparks, Mitch Rosen, El Paso Saddlery, hmmmm.

August 15, 2009, 09:34 PM
Mostly Kramer and Sparks, but I use other commercial ones if they suit me for a particular mode of carry or gun. I must admit, crossdraws work very well for me for CCW.

August 15, 2009, 10:45 PM

I fell into the 'other' category too. Custom made by me for me - leather/Kydex hybrid, left-hand IWB. Similar to those made by and shown in rustygray's post. I use some beige Kydex that I got surplus locally. Cost me less than 10 bucks for a full 4' by 8' sheet of the stuff. It was originally to be used in aircraft interiors. Not marked with the Kydex brand, but has the same thermoplastic properties and forms just like it.

Other. TT Gunleather IWB Holster.
Quality and comfort are excellent. I have holsters for a G26, G32 and 2.5" Model 19

OWB standard carry: DeSantis Speed Scabbard
OWB hiking carry: Blackhawk nylon OWB w/ thumbstrap
IWB: Galco, the $20 one

All my holsters are great. I recently learned with my Blackhawk that the strap goes over the back strap and not the grip. Makes a world of difference.

I have a sort of unkown brand, a Shado Left Handed CZ 75B holster. I love it. it has an adjustable button so you can adjust the size of the loop, the stitching is good quality, and my CZ fits it perfectly. And apparently it's made in South Africa

I got it in a CZ left hand version, which is almost impossible to find by any big brand, but they also have my particular holster in everything from the makarov to the walther ppk to the glock 17 to a GI 1911 and everything in between. I got the black version.
just in case your interested. Who doesn't need a new holster?
Man I sound like an ad.

Comp-Tac MTAC. I came very close to ordering a SuperTuck, but didn't like the crosses on the belt clips. Yeah, maybe I'm just being silly, but if my friends noticed I'm sure they'd start asking questions. I'm not exactly the most religious person.

Either a Galco Silhouette for my Astra Terminator or Smith N frame.
Bianchi CarryLok or Lobo IWB for my 1911.
I am having Ray at Lobogunleather make me a holster for the big .44 tho... He does some GREAT work.

K-Holster for the P6. Odd looking IWB rig but it's very comfortable and secure, easy to conceal with the adjustable height and cant.
