hey all...

wanting to jump into the 1911 field. just wanted opinions on the following gun posted on another forum. here's the description:

Foster (Caspian) Stainless Steel Frame
It is a full size frame that takes standard mags.
- trigger job
- lowered ejection port
- polished internals
- full length guide rod
- checkered mainspring housing
- ODI (Essex) Viking Combat Commander SS slide
- 1 generic mag and 1 wilson 47D
- Wilson stainless beavertail

I would like 550 or best offer. the trigger is extremely nice on this one. all the work was done by Tim Backus at Gilberts

if you want pics, they're here:

Basically, i found the buyer of this gun who's interested in trading for my XD .40 service package (gun, 2 mags, leather holster, 800+ rds of .40 ammo).

I'm already wary since the new buyer got the gun 3 days ago and wants to sell it. don't think i'll do it but wanted opinions on quality of this gun, etc.

Thanks all!

He's asking $400 for the whole shebang which seems pretty cheap to me. If I lived in Michigan, I'd definitely take a look at it and at least check it out for salvageable parts.

To me the Essex slide on the Caspian frame & other parts looks (in the picture) and sounds like a "frankenpistol", kinda wierd customization. You won't know how reliable or accurate it will be without test firing it yourself.

Definitely a Frankengun, Foster trademarked parts are usually blemished Caspians; and the only ODI guns or parts I have seen were pretty rough. Its value depends entirely on how well Mr Bakus put it together. Being a second hand gun, I would demand a substantial testfire before even considering buying or trading for it.

I would be concerned about reliability but even if it wasn't it could be something simple like mags or extractor tension.

I'd run away. I think you can find a better gun elsewhere for not much more, such as an STI Spartan.
