I know all about pre/post 64 stuff, but I seem to remember that there are differences between Winchesters made before and after 1984. I think they are stock differences, some stockmakers list for post 1984 but some do not make any distinction. What is the difference and how do I tell?

Fjestad's Blue Book has a list of serial numbers with year of manufacture, for the Model 70. There is also some discussion of changes during the years. Otherwise, I guess you'd have to check through a book on the Model 70; some gunstores have those.
