I have a friend at work who wants to trade me a Sig p226 for my Sig p228. What is your opinion? Should I trade or just keep the P228? The Sig P226 does fit me better but the P228 is however not available any more. Please give me some of your input. Thanks for any opinions.

I'd keep the 228. 226's are a dime a dozen, well maybe $750. :)

I have 226's and 229's and I know what you mean about the 226 fitting a little better. The grip is just a tad sweeter, but the 229's still aint bad either, and thats what I carry.

what's the round count/condition of the two guns?

if my 228 had 3000+ rds and the 226 only had 2-300 rds through it, i'd consider it (esp. if the 226 fits my hand better)

Actually... if the 226 fits your hand better, i'd probably go with that.

take them both to the range and find out which one you shoot better with.

SIG P226: European grip angle, not for everybody - including me~!
Larger, harder to carry concealed; and the new ones have stainless
steel slides, making them a bit top heavy.

:scrutiny:

SIG P228: Perfectly balanced, easily concealed, and out of production.
Early, West German models are in high demand. Rolled sheet metal slides,
making the gun lighter and a joy to carry all day long. This is MY basis
for not making the trade~! ;) :D

What ^^^ and AK103K said.
P226s are everywhere to be found. LE trade-ins can be had for cheap $350 - $450 and are a great value. P228s are getting harder and harder to find.
If you did that trade, I think you'd be sorry down the road. It would be the gun that you wish you never got rid of.

It's great that everyone has their opinions about how wonderful the P228 is, but I think you answered your own question. If you shoot the P226 better and you like the feel, then make the trade. I see little value in holding onto a pistol just because Sig has stopped producing them. If you want it as an investment, then that's fine. But if you plan on shooting and using it, then you should go with the gun you like best. I'd consider a 226 a fair trade for a 228.

The P228 is still in production and still can be found new, it's just that fewer are produced. That shouldn't affect your choice.
Your choice should be based on what you want the gun for.
If you like how the 226 fits you then get it.

Trade if they are in equal condition. Do we buy them for any other reason other than to suit our needs and taste? Neither are scarce enough to be collector items. Get the one you shoot best and feels best to you. Boy it's easy to give advice when you are not directly involved.
