HK P7 -- sticky grip

I recently bought a P7M8 from SOG, apparently a police trade-in, made in 1984 . I shot several mags in it without problems, but noted right away that the grip cocker would almost always stick in the cocked position when I released my grip on it. I took the grip panels off and sprayed WD40 in the mechanism which looks pretty clean, and oiled it. It still sticks!! I can make it uncock if I jump it with a fast squeeze. This is starting to sound perverted. Any ideas about how to fix this problem, fellow cultists?

This is a safety concern, the gun is designed so that if you drop it it will decock before it hits the ground. If you are not trained and skilled take it to a Glock armourer or send it back to Glock.

Pippin53, my mind isn't working today, reading too many glock posts. Yes you need an HK armourer. My first P7 I've had for more than 20 years. I think they are fantastic ( don't own a glock). I'd look at it for you if you were nearby. Call HK.

1) You do not want to detail strip a P7 on your own the first time without detailed instructions available. You have been warned. (Unless you're one of those folks that can look at a pile of springs and gears and intuitively assemble a Rolex out of them...)

2) WD40 is not a Good Thing to use on guns; it dries and leaves a gummy, varnish-like residue. It is possible that the previous user lubed the cocking lever with WD40 and that caused the problem in the first place.

I suggest you remove the squeeze grip to see if there is something stuck between outer cocking grip and inside one. It's fairly complicated, but with help of picture diagram in the armourors manual it can be done. I would not disassemble beyond this, for it gets insanely difficult from there on.

Refer to Chris's site for link to HKP7M8 Red armorer manual.

If you disassemble cocking grip, and have problem, let me know. Myself and others P7 cult members know how to put it back.
