I finally had time to set up my new classic turret with Pro auto disk. I have some Win 231 to start loading 9mm 124 fmj

I have the Lee reloading manual, and just got a used 505 scale to check the drop.

The manual states starting 4.2 gns, with disk #37 and dont exceed 4.5 grns.

#37 is too light and #40 is right at 4.5 grns. No fine tuning here, but I dont trust the scale

This scale seem really sticky, especially at the top and bottom. Is this just the the magnet pulling it to a stop? Either its set up wrong or junk.

I was hoping to test a few loads tomorrow :cuss:

Any ideas?

My scale reads the following for W231:

Disk Wgt
.30 3.1gr
.34 3.5gr
.37 3.8gr

I use a Hornady Model M scale.

Have you taken the time to zero the scale? It's a fiddly process. I have a Lee scale, which has a small screw that is used to adjust to zero. Start by removing everything from the desk or table you're setting it up on, and make sure that the little tenth of a grain measure on the end is locked onto 0. Then slowly work to get the scale zeroed.

Once it is zeroed properly, remember to check every fifth powder charge on the scale to ensure consistency.

If you're really unsure about the scale, given that you got it used, you might contact the manufacturer with questions.

I'll check my notes when I get home. Fwiw, what the Lee documentation says about how much powder gets dropped with which disc is off significantly. My Lee safety scale and a little cheapo electronic scale I got both agree with each other, and both say the same, that I'm actually throwing less charge weight than what Lee's little table says I should be. I use the weight I measure as what I record as my powder charge.

If you have a few $, I recommend upgrading your Auto Powder Disk to the Pro Disk or whatever they call it now, along with the Lee Variable Charge Bar. It's a bar where you effectively set the disc size by turning a screw, so you can go up or down to almost any size charge you want. I upgraded mine and wished I'd just bought it from the start, much better than just the Auto Disk.

Thanks,

I have the pro auto disk, upgraded from kempf.

I zero'ed the scale but it seems inconsistent. It sticks at the top and bottom. I can put powder in the pan and it will not move unless I give it a nudge. Cleaned the knife and pocket.

Use a check weight to test for accuracy of the scale. Might also want to pick one of these up: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=713372&t=11082005
I love mine, works quite well.

I wouldn't trust the scale if it's acting up. Safer to get a new one and as mentioned already, verify with check weights.

I use W231 and the auto disc, and it is within .2gr of the lee pamphlet.
