I decide to go with the look and reliability of an AK 47. Do they come in brand new anymore? What is the price? Do anyone have one used for sale? Do I have to do many custom work on it?

They are available new, Price is around $350.00 depending on where you are located. Like anything else customize all you want but it is not necessary.

Try AIM Surplus (http://www.aimsurplus.com ) for a SAR. Good guys to deal with. They have the nicer laminate stock ones for $319.95.

2nd vote for Aim.

A local reseller may have one, too. That way you can check it out for canted sights before you buy it. If the local reseller's price it within $50 or so of AIM's price, I'd buy it locally. It'll cost you $50 in shipping and FFL fee to buy it from AIM off the Internet.

If you are just looking for a well made AK mechanism type rifle, look at a Saiga in 7.62...its better made than the SAR1...

Sure, it doesn't look quite like an AK...but the mechanism is better, based on the AK-74. and you will have an extra $150 in your pocket (Saiga's go for around $200 or less if you shop them...CDNN has them for $160)

I looked at the SAR's...they just look like unrefined toolmarked junk. I'm sure they fire and all that...but $350 for a SAR vs $160 for a better made, more advanced AK style weapon?

Saiga's will not take standard AK mags and accuracy is just about the same as any AK's. I'll take the junk SAR1!

not to mention Saigas don't take standard AK stocks like the SAR-1.... (I really do hate the stock that comes on them)

KY Imports had some a few weeks ago. ONE of them had a canted front sight though.

Century has reported they will no longer import SARs for cost reasons, so I'd buy now if you want one.

Most SAR's aren't junk. I just bought one last week (last one my local gunshop had) for $379. Nice wood, decent finish, sights on straight, and looked better than the Saiga they had (not to mention it takes standard full-cap mags and has the more ergonomic (to me) pistol-grip stock.

I'd say get a SAR while you can. Prices seem to be creeping up (local pawnshop wanted $400 for a "like new" USED one). They're great rifles.

JoeKen firearms (find link on AK-47.net) gives a special deal to AK-47 forum members; coupla weeks ago he had the basic SAR for $279.00 plus shipping/FFL, and the laminated version for $299.00, but those prices may not be current now.
