Politics Baby!!

Well, we are coming up on a Presidential election year and I'm beginning to see more and more posts that of course get locked quickly.
Folks are feeling the need to hash out these issues around the Prez, any thoughts of an Election subforum or something?
I know and remember very well how nasty it gets sometimes, and don't have any hope that it would be any better but..... it's going to come up more and more.
Just wondering what the thinking was.

I understand, but you can see now one or 2 threads a day in General, it's going to get worse you know that.
Just wondering if there was a plan other than just keep locking them.
If that is the plan that's fine too, just wondered if there was any other thinking going on.

Yep, there is a plan.
Spelled out in various stickies throughout the Forum.

In case anyone hasn't checked in on www.armedpolitesociety.com lately, there is a fairly new politics-specific forum there.

www.thefiringline.com still has a political forum. Check it out, its about the same as the political forum here was. I think dropping the political forum here was a bad idea, and will led to less traffic here, but thats just my opinion.

I don't miss the political talk. THR is a much more pleasant forum overall since the Mods cracked down on political discussions. If folks don't like it, they're welcome to leave.

... and will led to less traffic here ...Is the traffic we're "missing" traffic we really want? Since I asked the question, you can probably guess my answer to it.
In case anyone missed it, there is now a quick link to APS in the upper right corner.

I don't miss the political banter either.
This site is about guns and I would guess that most of the people that come on here want to discuss guns without being harassed or intimidated by politics. I also think that some of the politicking that was going on here was by anti-gunners based on their bias.
If you are a gun owner, you would be better served by doing your political research somewhere else besides The High Road.

It's my experience that political discourse frequently and quickly turns in to political argument. These arguments rarely take "the high road". I like THR because discussions tend to be just that, discussions. Some of the other forums tend to have a lot of arguing and flaming and 12 year old know-it-alls. Even the most level headed "highroader" can forget where they are when their beliefs are attacked, which is essentially what political arguments are, attacks on the beliefs of others.

I don't miss the political forum.
It didn't exactly bring out the best in people.
There are zillions of websites devoted to politics, and only a few good sites for gun owners; I'd prefer we keep this one focused--and sane.
