Combat boots! I have a pair of John Deer leather steeltoed boots which I use for work. They are pretty comfortable, but their not very tactical.

I'm looking for a good pair of 'combat' boots. Steel toes are nice for some situations, but I think they would be too heavy and uncomfortable for combat boots.

When I wear my work boots out shooting, like to a sand pit or my folk's farm, the steel toe kind of bites into the foot when you go prone or kneel.

Any suggestions for good, rugged, comfortable tactical boots?

They're old school tactical. When being tactical meant hiking all day and still being able to kick the bejesus out of your foe.

Hubbard's shoe grease is better for the surface than nicwax, BTW. Holds up longer.

Too bad they're not selling the Oakley's to civilians yet. I wouldn't mind a pair. I think that they're well over $200 US as well. The Oakley page does have an assualt shoe that anyone can buy but it just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I have a pair of the Oakleys and they are the best boot I have ever worn. They are lighter than my running shoes and have excellent arch and ankle support. They just MAKE you want to RUN.

My big old size 13 steel-toe Danners could beat up your little assault shoes any day of the week! They may have a hard time CATCHING the little assault shoes, but by ginger they'll win if they ever do.

As someone who has worn combat boots nearly everyday for the past 21 years (occupational hazard...), these are some of the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. They will be getting another order soon.

Out in the swamps my Teva Terradactyls do just fine and I don't have o worry about trench foot. You do have to watch for cottonmouths, though, but that's a given.

Bates Enforcers are good boots, and the name "Enforcer" has that great Mall Ninja ring to it. Despite the goofy name they're pretty good boots and if you get the Galls house version they're about 60 bucks so therefore essentially disposable. They have a balistic nylon toe that's about as strong as steel. One of mine was run over with a Hook & Ladder Truck, and the toe held it's shape, albeit not in it's original position.

I'd love to own a pair of Danners but 2.5 bills is just toooo much.

23 years ago my father laid down the law that if I was gonna ride anything with 2 wheels and an engine that I'd be required to wear boots gloves and a helmet.

I got a pair of cheap black leather Navy combat style boots and have worn the same style of boot every day since.

The last 6-8 years I have worn Rocky model 2090's. I wear these boots every day, rain or shine. I hike in them, work in the muddy yard in them, wear em to church even... And I wear them to work where I put my feet up on the desk and type.

They usually last 2.5 to three years before I wear the Vibram style tread out. At that point the leather is still quite servicable but I usually get new ones because it doesnt have too far to go.

The Rocky's have a side egress zipper which I love and a snap flap that hold the zipper closed at the top.

Cost is jsut over 100 bucks at the local police uniform shop.

Downside is they are made in china.

Simply the best boot, by anyone's standard, is the Original SWAT 9" zipper-side. Unlike a lot of companies, OS is relatively unheard of and that is very tactical!

As for comfort, I have worn them all day, every day, while working off a truck, walking constantly and they just can't be beat. When you spend all your time toting 300lbs of body and then some coin/currency, and have to disembark from a moving truck, you'll come to appreciate the .75" of foam padding they have. Brand new, they don't need a break-in phase.

My favorite boots for mountain hiking and any activities in uniform are my Lowa Combat Boots and Meindle Army Pros. They are pretty stiff, especially the sole and around the ankles. The Meindles give a bit more "fording depth" than the Lowas. For my taste Danners and Matterhorns are too soft.

I've got a pair of Adidas GSG9 boots,

They are very comfortable, much more so than the hi-tec magnum boots I used to wear for range duty, etc.

Also very "tactical"- supposedly commissioned by the German GSG-9 anti-terrorist group. :-)

My most comfortable boots are my Corcoran jump boots.

#2 is a pair of Belleville Boot Co. new style nylon combat boots.

#3 is a pair of REI (made by Raichle) hiking boots.

I tend to wear the REIs the most, day to day, simply because they're faster to put on.

Heck, I use the Pro M-Frame shooting array, which is only listed on the military page with the caveat of 'Available only to active duty military at this time.'

Now if only the 'people' at Oakley would make it in a 15 wide....

Wow. That was not there on Monday. Either that or I'm getting old. When I first started looking at these, the guys over at Tactical Forums were trying to get them. According to them, the Oakley rep would not take any orders unless there was a military purchase order. This was back in Oct 02. Hey, I'm glad it's not true! :D
