My week old rusty M&P, the final chapterů..

Well, for those of you that did not read my previous posts, I will do a quick recap. I bought a brand new M&P 40, at the beginning of August. Three days later it was covered in rust. The slide, sights, roll pins, serial number, slide release, and the one mag were all rusty. So I called S&W and they sent me an over night label to send the gun in. I sent it out, and received it about 10 working days later. The only thing they replaced was the slide, and the sights and roll pins still have rust on them and the rest has rust stains. So I called a second time and requested a supervisor. I told him the whole story, and told him this was unacceptable. He said the Melonite was not finished correctly. The final step is salt bathing, and if that is not done correctly it will cause everything to rust fast. So he apologized and sent out another overnight label.

So, yesterday I got my gun back. After two months the gun came back with everything replaced. It looks as good as it did the day I bought it. And on top of that S&W threw in a set of night sights! When I went to buy a polymer handgun I compared the three obvious choices XD, Glock, and M&P. After shooting all three, and reading a lot of reviews I chose the M&P. I thought it had the best grip, lightest recoil, and it just IMO was built better. I think the M&P is young, but if they get the little bugs worked out I think they could get the market share. It is a better gun for the same price.

I have to admit I am back on the S&W love train. Not only did they stand behind their product, their service department is top notch. Not a lot of companies care about their customers any more, but S&W sure does. A lot of people are quick to complain when something goes wrong, but never say thanks when things go right.

Thank you Smith and Wesson!

Glad to see they made it right and once again you are happy to own it.

nice story...glad it worked out for you...nice to hear that S&W did the right thing as well...customer service seems to be lacking at some places but it is nice to know some will do it right.

I told you they would make it right. Kudos to you for staying on them. I know it was tempting to dump it after the first time it wasn't fixed, but I figured they would make it right for you on the second trip.

When I had a problem with one of my M&Ps, I never thought about getting rid of it, because the ergonomics fit me perfectly. When I found that match, I wasn't going to dump it just because of an issue or two.

BECAUSE Smith made it right with me when I sent in my M&P9c, I just purchased (layaway) another product from them: Another M&P(45). :D That makes four M&Ps in the stable.

Oh...and I've already decided my next gun will be a Smith as well - this time a 686 wheelgun (my first revolver, amidst polymer chaos!)

This is what is going to make S&W stand-out among their competitors. In my own experience, they have THE best CS in the industry.

Have you shot it yet? I would definitely get her to the range and see if she puts out reliably.

I love you guys who are on the bleeding edge, God bless you! Me, I'd rather wait until the teething pains are over and buy a 2nd or 3rd gen gun.

Plus, as much as I like S&W, getting it back not fixed correctly the first time does not earn a company a top CS rating with me. I'm glad they got it right, but a top notch CS department doesn't send stuff back that's not right, and anyone with half a brain that looked at the first repair wound not have shipped it back.

And while the M&P may be young, nitriding isn't, it's been around for a long time. Someone, probably knowingly, sent out a bunch of parts that weren't finished correctly. It happens from time to time, but it doesn't say much for whoever is performing the job or those that doing the QC testing.

glad to hear that they squared it away and a set of free night sights is awesome, though it taking 2 months is a long time to wait for the gun and though i would be happy to have my gun back i would be pretty displeased for it to take that long.

in the past i have sent 2 guns back and the time combined for me to get both back was less than a month.

3rdpig I am confused on why I have half a brain to send it back a second time when it was not fixed the first time?

I haven't shot it since I got it back, but I had 300+ through it so far without a problem. I just picked up 100 bulk, and ordered 100 double tap I plan on running through it soon.

The night sights are a nice touch since they made you send it back twice before they got it right. I wonder if they did anything else to it? Probably not but who knows. You might be even happier when you shoot it.
