Anyone going? This will be my first gunshow and I have full intents on buying a nice Mosin 91/30 and hopefully some nice surplus x54R. :) Any tips or advice since this will be my first time and don't want to make any used gun buying mistakes that will 1. Make me look like a fool :neener: or 2. Make me get an inferior firearm.

Thanks

I'm going and bringing a friend that's looking for a K31.

Learn the manual of arms of the gun you're looking to buy. Makes it hard to bargain when you're figuring how to work the bolt. Kind of gives the impression you know what you're doing and aren't a sucker.

Not usually the greatest show for buying ammo, but sometimes it surprises me. For a while, after a ND they banned all ammo sales at HCGA shows. They've eased up recently, but considering the hike to from the vendors to the parking lot, bring a wagon if you are planning to buy anything approaching a case.

I expect to be there Saturday about 9AM to Noon, 1PM at the latest, gotta leave by then so the wife and I can get ready for a Halloween party. I'll probably be wearing my NRA-ILA logo gray polo shirt.

+1 on the wagon for ammo.

First gun show? Better deals near the back of the show. I find the smaller dealers near the back are often friendlier & willing to spend more time w/ a customer. Often better prices, too.

I bought a 91/30 before I really knew what I was doing, more to have (it's a war veteran) than a shooter. It's a wallhanger but I wish I'd bought a Finn. Go early, find a dealer who has several and ask him about them. All matching serial numbers is doubleplus good. A couple years ago, one dealer I talked to had left several Finns back at his shop in Dallas, didn't know there'd be a demand in Houston. I should have followed that one up, see if they've got inventory not displayed.

Checking bores is kinda tough w/cosmoline. Bring a boresnake & borelight anyway.

Don't ask me what all those tables are at the way back that run perpendicular to the main show. Temp setups for private sellers?

I've got several hundred rounds of silvertip x54 sitting around. Something tells me I may have 2 cans but I've not seen the other one in a while. If you don't get what you're looking for w.r.t. ammo, send me a PM.

I won't be back in Houston until late Sunday afternoon. Sure wish I could go.

Well, I went and picked up a .30 cal bore snake. I just wanna make sure the Mosins are what I'm used to, they are a simple open the bolt and pull the trigger and hold to remove the bolt correct?

Yes, the bolt comes out by pulling the trigger and holding..

Went yesterday from around 9am-1pm.

It was my first gun show, so I was pretty much as euphoric as I had expected.

Icing on the cake is that I finally finished my AR...it'd been in the works since Jesse Jackson day a few months ago.

Ya, thats about how long I was there. So much stuff, so little money.

I did get my 91/30 and some ammo. :)

Thanks for the help guys.
