theres BG(s) in your house and you have seconds to choose between a Titan Tiger 4 inch barrel .38 special loaded with 158 grain Magtec cast lead bullets or a FEG PA-63 in 9x18mak loaded with Brown Bear 94 grain FMJs. Which would YOU choose?

My tomahawk and long knife are within grabbing distance from my bed.

BGs check in, they dont check out.

Being the police state in which I live. I would not use a firearm, nor one of my many swords.

There are no laws against tomahawks being used for protection of harth and home.

Both. I don't know enough about them to trust either.

Never heard of the Titan Tiger, but my friend had a FEG and it was a pretty decent gun so thats what Id go with.

I would say the .38 ...I would also say get some better quality firepower.

I wouldn't know how to choose.

Could I take the Glock 21? It seems like a more useful weapon.

i'd put this in "Strategies and Tactics"...

and i'd never be in this situation.

I would choose the one that is closest to me at the time.

How would you know how many BGs are in the house?

I would test them both extensively to see which is more reliable, or just save that money and buy a used glock.

I'm going to cheat, and grab my home invasion gun, the 870 18" loaded with 7 shells of Federal Flite Control 00 buckshot.

I would sell my dvd player or my I pod or TV or stereo and as soon as possible have something better than either of the two.

I find it amazing how much people spend on toys or electronics or even entertainment and then they want to buy cheap firearms which one day may have to be used to defend their life or that of a loved one.

Not being able to afford anything better is one thing choosing not to buy good quality so you can have some frivolous gizmo of the year is another.

If you are going up against three people who have already committed a home invasion their intentions are not to ask for directions or call AAA for a jump start or gas.

If all I had and could afford do to pure economic reasons were both those I would put one in a pocket and use the other and fall back on the second if and when the first ran dry.

Given

*****the options presented by the original poster*****

(apparently a supremely difficult concept to grasp)

I would choose the revolver first, assuming:

1. I could take only one of the guns
2. The guns were equidistant from me at the time
3. I was comfortable with the revolver

I hope that helps. :)

A: there's better choices in my house

Yep, but to answer the Q.

Titan Tiger 4 inch barrel .38 special loaded with 158 grain Magtec cast lead bullets.

Whatever that is. :)

I'd choose the one closest to my right hand.

This is the "battle of the $100 guns"...

I've never seen a Titan Tiger but it appears to be a $100 import from a now defunct importer. Old, cheap, and probably not all that good to begin with. Hard to say though. I think they were made in Europe.

I've handled a PA-63 (nearly bought one but then I moved) and owned other FEGs. FEG Hungary makes some rather nice pistols if you have a strong trigger finger. I've put many many rounds through a FEG P9R without any glitches. The PA-63 has a decent reputation as well.

The 1000+fps 9mm has a bit more energy than the 158gr 38sp as well.

So, of the guns the FEG is the winner as far as I'm concerned.

Why brown bear FMJ? You can get hollowpoint 9mm mak easily enough. Why either of those ammo choices? There are far better personal defense rounds in either caliber.

As for "tomahawk and long knife" ... if that's true it's because of your city, not your state.

I keep two S&W mod 10's, one in each of the night stands in the master bedroom. My wife's is a 2" and mine is a 4". My carry gun for winter is a S&W mod 19 Combat Magnum and it is hidden somewhere in the house, loaded...

I sleep with a locked and cocked .45 in each hand, so this is sort of a non-question for me. If 3 BG's break into my home, I automatically (but silently) awaken, hit the button for my apartments CS Suppression system and start firing through the gun ports that I have in my walls and door. It's a very simple system, but I think it works pretty well. Also, I recommend sleeping in utility pants and boots, because nothing is worse than going to battle in your tighty-whiteys. Trust me on that one.

:banghead:
In that scenario I would rather my option to be an instinctive reaction. With that in mind, I'd want it to be the .38 full of 158 gr. chunks of lead.:)

Which ever one I was the better shot with is the answer...I'd probably go with the .38 as its one of my favorites. Good soft nose bullets dig nice wound channels at in-house ranges :)

Am I inside the house already? Is anyone I care about inside the house? If no....call the police and let them get shot at....that's what they get paid for. Wait outside behind good cover and phone in plate on car and stay on with police....well back out of sight. Maybe sneak up and knife a few tires on way to hidy spot (though kind of unrealistic that will be an option timing wise).

If yes to either -it's neither....870 riotgun by the bed....but more likely the 1911 I alway have with me or at arms length...just playing the odds there....it's almost an extra appendage at this point so likely that's what I'd be working with....besides a cellphone and a 6P in that order in most cases. There's nothing in my house worth the lawyer fees to protect...I'm insured anyway. Myself or other people are another matter....without hesitation. I have the lawyers number in the cellphone to...it pays to shop ahead ;) Cellphones are just about as important (or more) than the taclight and HG everyone spends time talking about...as is being able to clearly communicate on it under stress. Know what you are going to say and need to convey in advance....don't get shot as the bad guy when you are the homerowner....let the good guys know what's happening before as or immediately after as time allows. If possible let THEM take the legal and personal risk. If not...know what you are doing and do it safely and profficiently...then shut up and call your lawyer.

The gun you choose is really immaterial...as long as it works for you and is reliable.

Gee TimboKhan...Us Sailors don't have to be in dress blues to go into battle...Two .45's, one in each hand...Be real careful that you don't grab the wrong barrel in your sleep and try to shoot with it...

Any internet home-invasion expert (like me) will tell you that you don't have to worry about this scenario if you master the ninjitsu art of sleeping with your eyes open.
