Search function is caput today, so I'll ask openly.

Some guys are setting up group buys, but don't generally have the price listed before hand. "blemish" deals are sold out within hours of being posted here.:rolleyes: I see some sites with prices in the mid $100's for 1K of stuff, and others in the $75 range for the same size/weight/brand pill.

What are some current GOOD prices for 1k amounts of regular plinking bullets (FMJ or plated) ? Prices that would make you think "I'm not low now, but I could use some more bullets at these prices!" I don't mind HP's, but these reloads are for autoloaders in general so no SWC's and stuff ('cept the .38sp!).

Take a look at the Nosler site. They pretty much always have blemished bullets for sale on the Pro Shop link. In fact, last time I looked, they had .224 bullets for a very good price that had been meant for the Australian market.

Nice post. I think all of us are looking for good deals when it comes to our shooting needs. That recent blemished sale will allow me to shoot cheaply for awhile. My average price per bullet with shipping was 11 cents compared to 20 cents.

I am now thinking about shooting more plated bullets. Currently my supply is composed of about 25% Rainers. That is likely to increase.

sierra has a room full of barrels of blemished bullets. they sell generally for about 20% off list. pisser is, you've got to buy them in person (in MO)

wideners still has what currently passes for "good" deals on 223. 5000 M193 for $345, for instance. Those are new. I bought mine as pull-downs for only $75/3000. *sigh*

beyond that, it's about time to start knocking on doors in retirement communities, asking if anybody wants to sell some old bullets/powder.

Gotta rub it in:

I bought .223 (and .308 supplies) about 1990, but never got around to rifle reloading. So I dug out an unopened box from Midway--it still had the invoice in it. Purchase date was 1990; Item was 1000 Midway-brand 55-gr FMJs. The price was 28.00, and the UPS ground shipping was 3.20. :p

OTOH, the Penn Bullets 140LRNFP-.358 purchase recently was $90/M, and I felt burned a bit.

Update--Penn Bullets are NOT $90/M; addition error--

Somebody mentioned the above comment to them--and I just got a call (within two hours): Bob (?) reviewed the invoice and found he'd made a billing error. Instead of a credit issue, I just ordered more bullets; their 140LRNFPs in .358 are the best I've used.

I have also been hearing a lot of good things about http://www.precisionbullets.com/home.htm and bought some bullets from them but haven't used any yet.

Cheap to me is cheap.

I just bought 1000 .44 mag 240-gr SWCs, 1000 230-gr .45 ACP RN's, 1000 .357 mag 158-gr SWCs, and 1000 9mm 124-gr RNs for the grand total of, including delivery, $197. Most of 'em were KEAD and Meister, all hard-cast lead, sized & lubed.

Can I beat that? Maybe, if I cast my own. But then I have to buy supplies and equipment.

This gets me under $5 a box for all of the above calibers.

the only problem with buying bullets mail order is shipping.

i can still get local casters to sell me stuff for about 40% less then mail order for lead. but i have to pickup or arrange for one of them to bring to the club.

True, but usually this is offset by not having to pay sales tax. Assuming you're buying from out of state, of course.
