I notice on hunting shows, the hunter uses a small plastic squeeze bottle with some type of white powder to check wind direction. What is that stuff and where can one buy it?

Get unscented talcum powder and put it in bottle with a nozzle top such as a small detergent bottle, etc. You don't need to pay five times as much for rebranded or private brand talc.

I have used plain unscented talc in a small squeeze bottle and have also made my own windicator out of milkweed pod. I just cut off the seeds and stuff the silky floaty parts in a film canister.

I like your idea kingcreek, the milkweed pod is a great idea. The same could be done with dandelion fluff.

You could also try some dirt - or more accurately - the dust therefrom. You have to be aware of air currents not just wind you can feel/hear. Cold air sinks, warm air rises, and the time of day, orientation to sun, etc. may affect the direction etc. game travels and should affect where you site yourself.

Get unscented talcum powder
308win,
Since we both live in Ohio, where locally can I get that stuff?

Any drug store or grocery should have unscented talc. If not, go to Lowes and get a bottle of chalkline chalk; it comes in squeeze bottles and all kinds of pretty colors.
