I was looking at a 'Cara Cara G10' knife by byrd, but I don't know a thing about them. What do you guys think? It says its made of 8Cr13MoV steel, which I also know nothing about.
Thanks

The Byrd line is a great deal for the price. I have five of them now (black Cara Cara, G10 Cara Cara, Raven, Crow and a Crossbill.) They are all well made and work great.
They are made in China though, so that is something to consider if you don't like to buy Chicom stuff.

I have several byrd knives and have been EDCing a Crossbill for about two years. byrds are IMHO the best "bang for the buck" in the industry today. If you aren't satisfied with a byrd, then your tastes probably run in a more expensive range, or you got a lemon. That's a very generalized statement that leaves out how well the knife fits you and your requirements. However, if you get one and decide you don't like it, you shouldn't have much problem reselling it without loosing taking much of a loss.
The steel can get wicked sharp and holds an edge well. It won't perform as well as some of the premium steels like S30V, or 154cm, but you aren't paying the price for them either.
The Cara Cara is a large knife, being only slightly shorter than the Spyderco Endura, but the ergonomics are very good. The G10 version is quite heavy as it's not much lighter than the all stainless steel version. There is also a FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon) version with nested steel liners that is considerably lighter.
For the money they are hard to beat, and most people like them

My buddy and I are knife nuts, and his preferred carry knife is the Byrd CaraCara. They are pretty good knives for the price.

PoorRichard summed it up best. The Byrd line up by Spyderco is great. I personally rotate the Robin in my EDC carry. I have sold a number of them including the Cara Cara and all of the feedback has been positive.

The Byrds I've handled have been well made for a chinese knife. I wouldn't trust one day to day though.
Why not spend a few more dollars and get an Endura or something?
