I recently purchased a Cablea's case tumbler. I went out in the garage today to tumble some brass and the thing was fine for the first two minutes then the motor would slow down, speed up, slow down, almost stop, speed up, go faster...well, you get the picture.

Has anyone else experienced any problems with this tumbler?

When I called Cabela's they were very apologetic and said to send it back and they would exchange it. It really had some great reviews. Maybe I just got a dud motor. Everything else about the tumbler seems to be top notch. I especially like the clear top so I can watch it "cookin". Seems it was made for them by an outfit out of Utah, Berry Mfg. I think.

If you have one, how is yours holding up?

I've had one of the exact same tumblers for a couple of years now. It has been perfect in every respect.

I dog it too. I load two big coffee cans of brass per load and run it until I think about changing the brass. It runs at least 30 hrs a week and has for quite a while.

Still runs great.

Sounds like you may have gotten the one in a zillion with a oddball motor.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a replacement without worry.

Best bang for the bucks in a tumbler on the planet, and the first one I've ever heard of with a problem is yours.

I thought that kinda thing always happened to me ;)

I would send it back. Cabela's is usually pretty good about working with people on returning defective stuff. I bought one of their kits that came with the 400 tumbler, media, and separator when it was on sale. I have even forgot to shut it off and let it run most of the day and all night without any problems.

When I bought mine from Cabela's the guy told me the only thing he heard bad about the Cabela's tumbler is that the wiring is tied together with wing nuts and is not soldered like others. He said he has heard that the wiring connections sometimes vibrate loose. I've had mine for about a year and no problems thus far. I have not confirmed what he told me because as I stated, no problems with mine but it sounds like that could be you problem.

No problems with mine, other than it is 10x louder than the small rock tumbler I had been using.

I suspected somewhat the same. You can visually see the wiring from the bottom. Mine had connectors with plastic insulators and a dob of silicon caulking on them to keep them from vibrating loose. Really think it was the motor. I've sent it back and another one is on the way.

Glad to hear this tumbler has a good following and not a widespread problem like mine. Sometimes you just get a dud.
