Powder measuring takes at least 50% of my reloading time, so I am finally warming up to the idea of (an inexpensive) powder measure.

In particular, I am thinking about these two: Lee (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=540522&t=11082005) and RCBS (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=752260&t=11082005)

Both have decent reviews, but Lee is *much* cheaper - I can buy 3-4 for the price of the RCBS one. I am inclined to buy 1-2 copies of the cheaper Lee and save some cash, but I am a bit concerned about the safety aspect - the min/max load range is pretty tight for 40SW...

Does anyone have experience with them, esp in 40SW or other such unforgiving round?

Thanks,

JP

I'd like to vote for this one:

I have one, and it is completely reliable, and you don't have to buy the micrometer adjusters seperately. Construction is as good or better than the Hornady LNL measure that came with my new press.

The CH pistol micrometer will measure up to 12 grains of Herco -- that's a .44 Magnum or extra-extra-heavy .45 Colt load. The only thing I've had any trouble with is when measuring large charges of light bulky powder it sometimes will throw a half charge (the next one will be normal, not a double) Using the rifle micrometer would remedy this.

Never used the Lee but I have a RCBS uniflow. It works with any powder out there. meaters great and has a life time warrenty.

You might also look at the RCBS Little Dandy powder measure. It cost less but it takes rotating bushing that are powder and weight specific. The roters are not that expensive either.

I have both the Lee PPM & the RCBS Uniflow.

The Lee is ok with extruded powders but binds severly with ball powder. The RCBS does better with ball & flake powder.

The RCBS costs more but in my opinon is the better powder measure.
