Ok im looking for something in the 38+p 357 41 44 area but light weight and small are absolute necessities. think 442/642 but i like the idea of the 44 special over the 38 because it will spend 99.9% of its life in my front jacket pocket. and if necessity determines i shoot it then the bullet will have to pass through my jacket, and into and through the assailants jacket and still penetrate deep enough to cause massive trauma. what is nice other than the charter bull dog, because i would prefer hammerless, but i can bob it if necessary. also if you know where to find your pistol of choice let me know.

Take a look for a S&W 296. It's a lightweight L-frame .44 special centenial.

Find a old Charter Arms Bulldog 44 spl. I use silvertips in mine and pocket carry. Other wise find a older prelock S&W

I think if I were shooting for my life, I'd use the sights to make sure I hit him where I want to hit him, instead of hoping for a good hit shooting through my coat pocket. J-Frame S&W.

I think you answered your own question - Smith and Wesson 642. Load it with 135gr +P Speer GDHP's and you'll have plenty-o-juice to punch through your jacket and into the next world.... ;)

360 is 12 ozs. in .357 magnum.
I just put a Crimson trace on it today. Hope to get her tuned in tonight.

I prefer the original J frames because their triggers are nicer. I've had several Model 36's and loved them. The "bodyguard" is good too. But the ultimate pocket carry remains the Detective Special, and it's a revolver I will never part with:

If I read RM567 correctly, he's looking for a revolver that can be fired through his jacket pocket. Wouldn't the 360, older J-frames, etal prohibit the possibility of firing while still pocketed without a hammer bob?

There's an aftermarket shroud you can get. But in practice there's no reason you can't fire through the coat pocket with a normal hammer. While I haven't wanted to ruin my coat, I've dry fired with both Model 36's and the DS with no problems. Obviously a pant's pocket would be too tight, but it's too tight to fire out of in any case. The real reason for getting a shrouded hammer is to avoid snags, and a pocket holster will sort that problem out just as well.
