Sounds like "we mods" need to get out of the mod business then!

Just did a quick search, and I'm guessing he's talking about this (http://66.80.73.51/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30786)
Not sure how I feel about it myself.

Ah. Of course.

Quite frankly, I was getting rather tired of all of the repetitious "Bush Lied, Cheney's the Anti-Christ" threads, and stopped reading them a long time ago.

If they generate light, that's great.

But those threads stopped generating light months ago, and all they were kicking off was heat.

Let me field this one for you.

If you want to run a gun board, go start your own. It is that easy. You can pick all your own mods and have whatever rules you want.

Either that, or let us do our job. If a forum Mod is getting a pile of complaints from agitated members, it is his call what needs to be done. Preacherman made his call. The majority of posters seem to agree with it. End of story.

I'm guessing he's talking about this Ah, I get it now. I've avoided L&P for a while now because of all that crap. Must say I agree with the Preacherman.

Don't expect moderators to fit your idea of perfect competency 100% of the time. We make a good-faith effort and succeed some of the time. Constructive sugegstions are welcome. Whining without constructive suggestions will get you a list of links to other forums.

I don't know why, but the more I look at the rabbit picture, the more I think I work with the human equivilent...

Mike Irwin - I am rather surprised after enduring from you all the posts about "boycotting S&W" about you saying anything in regard to "repetitious posts"! Rather hypocritical wouldn't you say? It is also hypocritcal for mods or any people in authority to place a "feedback" forum and then when they get it to always say "well its so and so's forum and he can do what he wants and if you don't like what the mods have to say you can go elsewhere..." Yes it is someones forum but without posters it will be no ones forum for long! If you are going to have a "legal and political " forum then let it be open to comments in that subject. Not what a single person or wannabe wants to hear. As far as posters to this thread that claim they don't know what the thread is about...Then why did you post in it? DUH!

Not hypocritical in the least, Tom. At least I don't believe it to be. You think so, that's fine. I'm hard pressed to care, really.

Had one of the moderators decided to shut the S&W threads down, I wouldn't have uttered a whisper, much less posting a somewhat cryptic and petulant rant whining about how I could moderate better.

But they didn't, and they haven't.

And, quite frankly, no one forced you to "endure" anything in the S&W threads.

At all times you had the option of whether to click on and read the thread or not.

I exercised that option with the Bush Lied threads a long time ago, as I noted.

So far, though, it looks like there are two or three people yipping about Preacherman's action, a few others yapping at the yippers, and a whole hell of a lot of people who apparently just don't care about it one way or the other and who have continued to post at a furious rate.

So, I'd have to say that your prediction of the imminent demise of the forum is, to paraphrase Mark Twain, "greatly exagerated."

Tom,

We are always open to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. If the purpose of your post is to just say, "hey I disagree and I think you should quit" then that isn't exactly constructive. Hence why I suggested you could start your own board.

In the last month Mods have been bashed by various members for being pro-republican/pro-libertarian/anti-libertarian/anti-republican/Bush apologists/Bush haters/pro cop/anti cop. Go figure.

You can't make everybody happy all the time. You can only do the best job you know how.

Why don't we quit then? Because 99.9% of the time we really enjoy it and the great members we get to work with. But somebody is going to be ticked off at us at any given time, that is just the nature of the beast.

Wow, man. Do you need a hug or something? I didn't realize whining was something for Tech Support. Usually, this forum contains either A) questions regarding something in the forums, or B) suggestions for the forums.

Most forums I have visited, you get suspended or banned for questioning a moderator in public. If you have a problem with a particular mod, send a PM to that mod. Chances are, your questions/comments will be answered without dragging the rest of the forum members into it. When I was a mod, and saw a member questioning another moderator publicly, I'd remove the post and send a PM to that person to resolve the problem privately.

As to why I posted in this thread, well, it's a public message. If you wanted it to be private, there is the PM feature available for you to use.

Oh my...Mike -I think you're on to something there...either someone I worked with or... perhaps the craftsman that must have turned out the last "new" *&* I last handled. ;)

Hey, I'm just a member, I try to follow the rules. Preacherman made a call, that's his job, and I happen to agree. Correia...is right besides...who we gonna order stuff from? ;)

Nope ,Oleg was gracious to continue what Rich did at TFL. We agree to rules of conduct, agree to disagree, all the while exhibiting responsible firearm ownership.

Here's my unasked opinion (the best kind there is).

Preacherman could probably have worded his post a bit better. He was obviously frustrated and I believe he let a bit much come out in his post.

That said, I think his actions were entirely within his job description and appropriate (whether or not I agree with them).

Back when I was a newspaper editor, a colleague told me: "If you try to please every one all the time you'll wind up pleasing no one."

Could be grist for the moderators' mill as well.

That's funny, Beaver.

I was told that when I started my writing/editing career.

And I started as a newspaper reporter!

Mike, a reporter really? You never cease to surprise me with what you know. What kind of reporting if I may ask?

Thats good advice for anyone , in any business, thanks cdbeaver.

Mike Irwin - I, like you have expressed ,could really care less about about your opinion but as I have expressed to you in the past if you wish to snipe just be ready to take it as well as dish it out! You seem to want to post here in regard to peoples suggestion's when you really have no more authority than the rest of us to act on them. Points maybe? I don't know Preacherman from Adams housecat. I have never emailed nor Pmed nor talked to him in any way nor have I ever complained to any mod or Admin on this forum about anything or any person before today. I have never even been to this "suggestion" forum that I remember since I have been on THR. I came here today because I wanted to express my views about what I have read. These views are aimed at the people in authority in this forum. Not you Mike! If you want to be a mod talk to them. Now saying to email, etc... is great but why is that not posted? Why is this forum here and why do I read the nature of many posts on this forum to be in regard to problems and complaints of this type. In which you also like to snipe at others problems I might add. Darrin You also IMO have done nothing but snipe on this thread. I also say to you...talk to them! I do not go to your threads and make comments which have nothing to do with the subject but as an attempt to belittle someone who is expressing a concern. But in any case I have received my "answer" from the people in authority at this forum, such as it was in some cases, so I am now satisfied. But I will use this forum again to express my views.
