Okay my electronic ear muffs died so I am in the market for some more. What does every one like or dislike? I really want to stay away from the type that clips (ie shuts off) when it detects loud sounds but shuffles the volume down. (Not sure I am using the correct terminology).

I've heard people say that their Peltor Tac 6's clipped sound but my wife and I both use them (2 or 3 years old) and they do not clip. Not sure about the newer models though.
Let us know if we can help any.

I recommend Pro-Ears. I have some after owning some Peltor 6s' that "clipped" like you mentioned. They sound great and I've already converted over two friends after they tried them. Better protection too (33db vs 19). They're expensive but your ears are worth the extra protection--you've only got one set of ears, spend the extra bucks now for protection rather than 25 years from now on medical bills.
