I just thought about this an hour ago, but figured I'd wait another month before posting it up. But since you started it...

is that it isn't open to the public!
I got to go in 1988 (and it was really cool), but am no longer in an included industry. Drat!

The FBMG contingent will be there.
I'll be doing the regular show thing part time, as I'm also working a booth this year too. I'll be at the Prism Simulator booth, as I'm a distributor for them, and will be acting as the trainer as people try out the system.

I've been to the show eighteen out of the last nineteen years. I've been to the last two High Road dinners. So yeah, probably.

No one has proposed a dinner night yet. Friday night (second night of the show) is what we have done for the last 2, at least. But this year it runs Sat-Tues. Second night is Sunday, which is Superbowl. May be hard to get a restaurant that night. Saturday evening may be hard too. What do y'all think of Monday evening?

Anyone know how the housing situation is looking? Are rooms getting pretty full already, or is there a trick to finding decent prices?

Wes, don't wait too long on rooms. I got ours a couple of weeks ago, and even then we couldn't find anything cheap.

I got a room reservation a couple of months ago. (cancellable w/o charge until Dec. 28). Now I've waited until all flights are pricey (>$550) :(
Glad to hear I'll get to see you again, pax!!!

I'm new to the group, but I just checked the press credential requirements and can pass muster.
I'm also just an hour and 15 minutes from the strip, so if it would be acceptable I'd be happy to meet for dinner and meet some fellow enthusiasts (forget breakfast, don't eat it, rarely see that time of day unless I'm up really late).
Pick a time and place.
(Even though Nevada makes me real paranoid cause the state is too worried about WHICH gun I'm carrying, I'll cross the line from a free state to a, i dunno - anal retentive Clark County.)
Be sure and have any and all firearms you bring well documented. LVPD is full of CHIPs wannabes...

Get together with a patriotic FFL and simply ask if he as a pass. Wish I had one to send you, maybe someone else here can! Maybe they have a special pass for active duty armorers, they should!

Any restaurant suggestions? We need to look into that ASAP. Any volunteers to make a reservation?
We can start getting a head count in January.

I could go this year, but I'm not sure whether or not to. I've never been. Don't know that much about it, really.
Can anyone give a quick explanation of why I'd want to go?
Are there shooting activities and things to learn and experience, or is this just a bunch of vendor booths? What's it like?
Henry Bowman
December 13, 2007, 08:15 PM
It is first and foremost an industry trade show. It is where manufacturers display all their wares for retailers and distributors to see and touch the offerings and to get questions answered by the manufacturer's reps and salespeople. Vendor booths vary from a bare floor and table showing one item with brochures to 2-story structures of walnut panelling enclosing [what seems like] acres of plush carpet and props. Because it is SO big, there is competition for attention at booths (just like at any trade show). This can include demonstrations, swag, booth babes, prizes, etc. There is vitually nothing for sale on the spot. Special pricing, however, may be offered for orders placed by retailer during the show.

Thanks for the run-down. Sounds like I'll give it a miss, unless something changes like I get elected to my gun club's board, and our local dealer's license crap comes through. Then I might need to know more about the retail gun biz.
I'd enjoy meeting a bunch of you guys in person, though.:)

January will be extremely busy for me, so I'm thinking about these things now. In 2006, we met here: http://www.mcmullansirishpub.com/location.html
That was fine for me. We had our own room. But when the band started, it was really hard for me to hear pax's soft voice with my old ears. :(
The seafood place in Orlando last year was good. No separate room, one long table, but they didn't rush us to leave.
There is a seafood buffet place in Vegas, but in '06 I heard bad things about the food there.
I really like meeting everyone and having time to engage in longer conversations with some. Last year I made name tags with screenname/realname (if I knew the real name) for those who had confirmed in advance. Did that seem like it was worth the trouble?

Myself, MrsTheRock and a couple others will be available to have dinner; Monday or Sunday night might be the best option.
I wonder if we will have somebody volunteer to give up stuff they don't own again.

Actually if its still open the chinese resturaunt we went to in 03 I believe we could actually talk with out to much noise.
The italian returant the year later was not the greatest for talking.
Will leave it up to you guys.

I'm glad to do the name tags again -- if someone can organize a list a few days in advance. I am slammed with work and travel until the last week of Jan.
Can someone please find and reserve a location?

I'd be happy to make reservations a couple of days before hand.
Last time I hit the show in Vegas, we ended up at a Friday's. (No Joke!)
Since it has been literally years since I was in Vegas, I will have to give way to folks with more experience than I.
How about a meet during the show to finalize plans and trade phone #s?

TR, my experience (which is relatively limited) is that getting together once during the show is a miracle. A "planning meeting" would probably not be workable. Many people will have their schedule for the entire 4 days planned out by next week. We need to do the planning and phone number exchange here.
A "table for 20" at Friday's would be fine. A separate room is even better. Most people will prefer mainstream food at a reasonable price.

At one of the previous SHOTs, we were able to get everybody together and trade cell phone #s, etc.
Okay, so do we just want to suffer with Friday's or is that Chinese place a possibility?
Please PM or email me for my phone #.

So what are we gonna do for food? It HAS to be a buffet. Watching Larry and our partner Marcus go toe to toe in an eating contest is something everyone should see. However....... Keep you hands in your own space and it is not for the faint of heart.

Unless anybody has a better suggestion, I say we try for a normal chain for Sunday night.
We can try to find a place with a private room; like last year's, we could even go there again. Hopefully they don't have a band.

There have been reports on some of the other forums that some vendor is going to debut a .22 conversion unit for the Sig 226 at the SHOT show.
Did anybody see such a device?
