Yeah, I know that I could hang out at the range and scrounge, but life's too short. I can tumble 'em myself.

Just a thought, cost of .45 new brass at one of the sites was about $0.14 each, add $0.02 for primer and again for powder, plus $0.08 for a jacketed hp equals about $0.26 per first round loaded.

Buy factory S&B for about $10 a box ($0.20 per round), you save $0.6 per casing plus you get someone else to do the first loading. Of course, if you buy the used brass (you have to take their word that it is only once fired) you can save even more. I normally let S&B, Remington (UMC), Speer (Lawman) or Federal (American Eagle) do my first loads for me (brand is dependent on caliber).

Look for places local, shipping is expensive on this stuff.

Black Hills Shooters Supply http://www.bhshooters.com/ has Rem. new brass (unprimed) for $.106 (about a dime) each - with FREE shipping to the lower 48 states. They also have once-fired brass, processed (inspected, decapped, primer pocket cleaned and polished) it's $80.40 per 1000, unprocessed it's $68.75 per 1000. They are very good people to deal with, it's where I buy my brass.

Well, being that one can shoot .45ACP until one cannot read the headstamp, I'm probably gonna buy a thousand or so rounds of "once fired," and not worry about it.

Assuming $60/thou for brass (primed), another $20 for powder, and $80 for bullets, I'm in for $160.

Second firing, I save $40.

I agree. I think it is a little silly to buy new brass for 45. The link above sells 45 once fired(cleaned and roll sized) for $18/1000. It is hard to beat that.

I haven't tried these people personally, but at the price they are selling at it might be worth a try.

Just under the yellow box click on the picture of the brass.

He is showing $22 /1k. Yah it is machine sorted but what the heck, I can handle some odd brass for $22.

brassman and gibrass are probably the best dealers to go to for once fired, but honestly, it's not that hard to pick up range brass. whenever i go to the range, i usually walk out with at least 100 pieces. on the average saturday, i'll collect about 300 .45acp. it's amazing that so many people don't reload. more for us though. :D

(cleaned and roll sized)

I have a guess, but I'll just ask. What is roll sizing?

Arub, I wouldn't worry about "extra" firings with .45, but you make a valid point if one were buying .40 or another high-pressure case.

Even so, I do what you suggest. I've never bought empty brass. Every once in awhile when I'm at the range and run out of ammo or whatever, I buy a box of Sellier and Bellot and shoot it, then take the brass home. 50 extra casings is actually a lot of brass for .45 because the only way I've had to stop using any was when I found less than I'd shot at the end of the day. The other day, I went to an "orientation" for a gun club and fired 30 rounds as part of their gun handling check. I was the only .45 on the line. I recovered 12 cases. Figure that one out!
