Mikee Loxxer October 30, 2007, 03:06 PM Top looks like an HK 91 the one on the bottom is a Mosin Nagant carbine.
bcp October 30, 2007, 03:08 PM Bottom is not SMLE, is a Mosin Nagant.
Note the cocking knob/safety, forward bolt handle, and no gap between mag and guard.

Jeremy2171 October 30, 2007, 04:29 PM G3....
HK-91 is a civilain semi-auto.
Both the Turks and Iran use license made G3 rifles.
jpwilly October 30, 2007, 05:37 PM Yes, H&K G3 Top and Mosin Nagant M44 bottom!
Looks like the Turks are planning to "bring enough rifle"!
jerkyman45 October 30, 2007, 05:37 PM Quite true jeremy2171, my mistake.
Cosmoline October 30, 2007, 05:41 PM What should we do? Who will defend us? Who will protect us? This is in the minds of the people in the north.”
Col. Mats Danielsson, the Swedish commander of a 450-man military unit helping to provide security in four northern provinces,
This would be funny if it weren't so tragic. 300 Spartans to defend you? Maybe. But 450 Swedes on a diplomatic mission? Eh, no offense but I'd be keeping my Mosin.
Sometimes our stupidity astounds even me. These northern militias know the area and are ruthless fighters. Why the devil aren't we ARMING THEM and paying them to help us root out OBL and the rest of AQ? Instead we're getting NATO peace mongers to disarm all of them. We're going to get spanked again, and we richly deserve it.
Hutch October 30, 2007, 11:23 PM Just fyi, it appears that the picture of the M/N is mirror-imaged, that or it's a very, very rare left hand version.

Yeah, I was kinda wonderin about that myself....:scrutiny:
db_tanker October 31, 2007, 07:39 AM bolt might be open, I think.

LaEscopeta October 31, 2007, 10:09 AM Bottom is not SMLE, is a Mosin Nagant.
Note the cocking knob/safety, forward bolt handle, and no gap between mag and guard. Thanks, now I know what to look for.

No, its simple turned on its side with the bolt open. Hence the fact that you can see the outline of the magazine as if it was from the side (and it is) where the bolt handle, when open, is vertical. It looks to be an m91/59 with the bolt opened and pictured from the side.
Jeremy2171 October 31, 2007, 10:51 AM Its an M44, you can see the bayonet swivel is still there.
Cosmoline October 31, 2007, 12:45 PM Just fyi, it appears that the picture of the M/N is mirror-imaged, that or it's a very, very rare left hand version.
Actually the bolt could just be sticking straight up. It's hard to tell.
I agree it looks like an M-44. It would be unusual to see an M-38 in that part of the world.
Funderb October 31, 2007, 01:30 PM I don't think there were any russian manufacture left hand mosins.
they would have been post-manufacturing modifications.
It is very unlike Russia to build anything straying from the original mill.
Cosmoline October 31, 2007, 01:32 PM The modifications involved would be enormous. It's just a weird camera angle with the bolt half uncocked and sticking out the top of the receiver. Of course there is no half cock safety on a Mosin, so I'd be worried if I was that fellow looking down the barrel!
Mark_from_Iowa October 31, 2007, 02:11 PM I agree that the bolt is open and the picture is not reversed. It also looks like an M44, as the baynet mount is in the right place.
However, where is the front sight globe? As far as I know, all Mosin carbines have the round globe. In fact, I don't see any front sight at all, just the mount/dovetail.
C-grunt October 31, 2007, 02:22 PM If that Mosin somehow fired at that moment, the dude in the brown pants would be a lot less of a man.
