Does anyone have extensive experience with this pistol? I always get nervous when the full-size pistol is chopped - is reliability compromised?

I've got about 300 rounds through my P220 Carry SAS. I haven't had any problems at all with it. IMHO - It balances just as well as my stamped slide P220s. It'll be my main CCW this winter.

The Carry really isnt that much different than the stock P220, just half an inch shorter. I have both and like both. I also have a P245, which is the more compact SIG .45, if there really is a compact SIG. Basically, the Carry is a P220 with a P245's slide.

SIG's arent like most of the 1911's, they work short or not. :)

I have 2 of them...a P220 Carry DAK and a P220 Carry Stainless Elite.

They are quite different from one another, yet both are the schnitz!

Buy with confidence - these are terrific pieces...

This is a P220 Carry SAS modded to TDA. It rides in a Milt Sparks VMII. So far so good! It is one of only a few pistols that I own that has NEVER malfunctioned on various ammo. Knocking on wood. :)

Thanks!
If you use a tripod, your pictures will come out much clearer.
(I learned that here the first time I posted a picture)

sorry for the brief topic derail, but ref, do you think the camera has anything to do with it? It's a Canon Powershot A70 I got for my wife several yrs ago. I just figured the macro sucks on it. Maybe not?

I don't know sqwat about cameras! I'm not even sure what model camera I use. I know its a Canon and that it didn't cost all that much - my wife bought it. All I know is that once I started using a tripod, my pictures came out pretty decent. The tripod that I use is for a video camera, but my camera kind of fits on it!

I need a change, and step-up, to the, modern and more, better times.. lol

PS.. the OP needs to go to a gun store, that has both, the P220 full size, and a Carry model, and place each one in his hand, then point to aim, and with one, it will be a 1/2" longer, but much more narrow, over-all, and the other will be shorter, a bit wider, and which ever feels the best is most likely the one you'll shoot best, as they are both great guns, but the grip, the gun/s in your hands, point to aim feel, will talk to you the most.. IMHO

Lonestar49: Are you saying that the 220 Carry is wider than the standard 220 (or that the standard 220 is narrower than the Carry)? I thought that the only difference between the two is that the Carry is about a half inch shorter than the standard, all other dimensions being the same.

Here's the P245, P220, and P220 Carry side by side.

and again, same order...

and a side view, 220 on top, 220 Carry, 245...

The Carry is ever so slightly fatter than the other two. Then again, my 220 and 245 have stamped slides, the Carry is a newer stainless slide.

...

1. Yes, the Carry is a lot wider because of the slides thickness and shape.

1.b P220 standard is definitely a lot narrower than the Carry model, and is part of the reason I changed my mind, and got the full size.

2. That, and weight, and the feel, was the second reason, for me, as the balance, point to aim, favored the full size for me..

But, many happy P220 Carry owners out there that felt the complete opposite of what I did in the balance and point to aim.. So, that is why I'm hoping that whatever gun shop you go to has both so you can compare them side by side, along with, how the gun/s feel you your hands, grip, point to aim, and which-ever one talks to you the most, you'll know, that's the one to get, as the recoil will be a non-factor from my experiences shooting both.

I will say, without having ever shot one, the model Carry with the beaver tail would be best, as that really helps balance and control of recoil and getting to one's follow-up shots faster IMHO, but again, this is a very fine line between everything I have mentioned, and each gun is "forgiving" in the area of recoil, as so many owners have testified too. Otherwise, no problems, recoil is not an issue.

Ah, just saw the above nice photos, but I'll shoot ya a few that show an American P220 Standard vs my American P229 Carry 9mm, as that will kinda give ya a better 1 vs 1 view, as the P229 Carry is almost the same as the Carry in 220.

I don't have micro settings on this camera, but the top views are very clear, and to be fair, this is comparing a 45cal vs a 9mm, so appearance may seem skewed, but the slide of the 9mm is a Carry slide, and thick as the Carry 220 vs my standard 220.

P220 standard has the wood grips and 9mm is all black plain Jane.

These are both in comparison, but note that the P229 9mm Carry's grip/handle is shorter in length to the P220 Carry's grip, which is the same as the P220 Standards grip in size and length, being taller.

Bottom line; pictures won't do it, having them side by side, in your hands, and eyes, will

I picked up this CPO 220 Carry just a few days ago. I have experience with Sigs, having owned a 220 European 9mm for many years, and currently owning both a 228 and 226.

I took the 220 Carry to the range today and my jaw dropped. In my hands...to my mind, it is perfectly balanced and shoots unbelievably well. Again, that's for me.

I am really impressed. At 7 yards, the first 8 rounds I fired resulted in 4 of them in the same hole. Now, I'm not a particularly good shot, but this weapon, after I put a couple of hundred rounds through it, will become my carry gun. replacing my 228.

Not to beat a dead horse but is the 220 Carry thicker than the standard 220 assuming they are both made in the same era (that is, both using the same slide material and manufacturing technique- not stamped vs. forged)?
