It looks like S&W's pain could be our gain. Their stock was down 40% yesterday on news of weak earnings and lowered financial expectations. Here's a quote from the release:

"....We experienced lower than planned sales of our non-M&P pistol products in the second quarter of fiscal 2008, the result of several competitors offering deep discounts to distributors and retailers, in what we believe is an effort to eliminate their excess inventories. We intend to respond to this competitive environment in the remainder of fiscal 2008 with a series of consumer pull promotions. While the cost of these promotions is expected to somewhat impact second half gross margins, we believe they will drive demand at the customer level to fuel increased sales of Smith & Wesson products in the sporting goods channel throughout the balance of fiscal 2008. ...."

Good I'd like to add a few S&W revolvers to my collection.

After my recent dealings with their customer service I hope they dont try and cut costs by cutting service. S&W service has been AMAZING. Also they still make great guns.

Rumor has it that starting 11/1 the new promo will be 2 free magazines and a $50 rebate with purchase of a M&P or Sigma. One of the boards actually posted a link on the S&W site with the rebate form. But until I see it on their site tomorrow, I'm not 100% sold they are doing this (sounds a bit too good to be true).

Anyways, if I check tomorrow, it may be a deal that I'll take advantage of.

There has been a deal for an M&P with Blade Tech holster, mag pouch, and 3 mags that expires shortly. There is also a coupon you can print from the S&W site for 2 mags when you buy an M&P or Sigma. When you click "continue" in my zip code, you get the whole shebang for $514.

As for the slow sales of their non-M&P pistols. When they got police departments to switch to M&Ps, a lot of good used steel S&W autos hit the market. You'd think some highly paid MBA might have seen that coming and maybe offered incentives on the steel guns, or expand the offerings.

I would be interested in several of their revolvers, but not with the key locks. I understand you can get their autos with or without locks, mag disconnects, etc., but do not believe they offer the same options on the revolvers. Too bad, but no sale here.

The 2 free mags + $50 rebate promo on the Sigma and M&P's are correct.

Check out their homepage for even more great deals.

Considering how high their stock has been trading, I'm not surprised at such a correction. Looks like a buying opportunity. (Always be sure to diversify tho!)

S&W pistol sales must be really hurting if they have to offer such large incentives for the M&P. Assuming each mag is worth $20 that means the total deal is appoximately $90. That's around 20 percent of the cost of a M&P. I suspect sales of the metal frame pistols has totally collapsed. You never see new ones in stores.

MAKster, M&P mags cost about $40 each after tax making the promo worth approximately $130 total. I took advantage of this offer by purchasing a M&P 45 and sending my paperwork to S&W on 11/01/2007.

Ruger's stock took a similar hard hit in 3rd quarter, allegedly from internal reorganizing problems.

The one story I saw on S&W blamed some of this on a "softening in the hunting market". I find that a little hard to believe considering what their product line is.

Some nice rebates on their Model 22 .45 revolvers might get me going. No polymer, thank you.

Wow, I just looked at the suggested retail price of their revolvers, YIKES!!! I'd love a 629 .44 Magnum, but not at those prices

In an Academy here in Round Rock, TX they had another promo posted in addition to the 2 free mags w/autos. Buy any 1911 type pistol from S&W and get a free Milt Sparks(IIRC) leather holster and single mag holder. With this promo running through the end of the year I will have to get that 1911PD I have been watching.

Sorry, but that is a DeSantis holster and mag pouch; instead of a Milt Sparks~! :scrutiny: ;)
