I just purchased a "tactical latch". Again I did this under the recommendation of someone with real world experience. I installed it, and I really don't get the point of it. If anything it just allows another place to get something caught on. I think I prefer the original latch. Your comments are appreciated.

It's only good for use when you use a variable scope on a Varmint/Target rig when the bell housing is over the charge handle. It was designed so that you had proper clearance of your nuckles on racking the slide. Also makes it easier when your on a bench. But aside from that, I agree, it's just more to get snagged to and shouldnt' be considered for a CQB rig.

it also means you have more stuff to grab onto when charging the weapon, so it's not all bad.

I am assuming that you are talking about something like the Badger Ordnance tac latch? If so, you will see the difference when you do malfunction drills with the carbine and not really at any other time. It's one of my own "must have" items on an AR.

When you sling it hands free it has a tendency to dig into the body,I wouldnt want to hit the dirt with that latch facing in,its useless keep things simple with an AR a good reddot optic and my iron sites fatM4 handgaurds and a heavy buffer thats as fancy as I get ive taken the blackwater class and the AR with the most gadgets always seemed to be down,Iron sights were the most usefull and should be mastered before all these gadgets,the aimpoint was used for lowlight condition shooting with all the muck and wet the rifle goes through in real world training such as how it is there, simple is best.

Might get a couple more for the Dissipator and AR10.

I use the Badger latch and like it. I rarely shoot "unscoped", though. The chances of my having to "hit the dirt" are infinitesimal.

Its hell on the breastbone and pectorals. Not to mention it gets caught on stuff if you're wearing a vest and a Giles.

Amen Bogie,Amen.And to the fella who rarely shoots un scoped,I would suggest making iron sights a priority and optics second if they go down,and murphys law says they will when you need em,you will need to be proficient with irons.

I have Badger on my AR with the ARMS #40 BUIS. I put it on because i had trouble getting a good hold on my CH with the BUIS folded down, for that purpose it works fine. However, i would not recommend it except for a benchrest gun. Mine has come unlatched from rubbing against my body during classes leading me to worry about my CH flopping about and becoming bent or broken. It does tend to poke you as well. Plus It looks rather flimsy.

I have one on my AR10 - it gives me a lot better grip on the charging handle because the scope bell gets into the way.

A very good mod to a standard rifle with a scope mounted on it.
