could we PLEASE get some different smiley's! I've seen so many that are gun related, shooting pistols, ar's ones with cowboy hats many many more.

We are working with a limited selection here and our emotions fall into much more than a mere 20 categories.

I am requesting more animated smiley's please!

Smiley's can make or break a thread add more!

Thanks!

Indeed I second that.
Perhaps we can have a smiley poll (and add 3 new smileys a year, don't want to get too many 'cos it will cause clutter)

Bah humbug - basic written English is getting hard enough to find online these days as it is.... Next thing ya know, they'll have dancing avatars oozing all over the place.

rbernie,

Agree.

While Internet is difficult to convey certain parts of communication, I do not feel adding more, instead decreasing, emotion smile faces would actually be better.

Smilies must be limited and only used when appropriate.

I'm a curmudgeon myself, dislike having anything animated on a page I'm trying to read. One reason I like THR is that THR has always limited the flashy blinky annoying colorful distracting stuff.

Smilies don't have to be on THR's list in order for you to use them.

For instance, if you wanted to call Jeff White a jack-booted thug and the other officers here a bunch of stormtroopers, and back it up with a few smilies . . .

http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/owen/trooper.gif http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/owen/trooper.gif http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/owen/trooper.gif http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/owen/vader1.gif http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/owen/trooper.gif http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/owen/trooper.gif http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/owen/trooper.gif

Say you wanted to tell pax you loved her, and wanted to woo her over with a smilie. . . .

http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/fk/hearts.gif

Say you thought Justin was a hippie . . .

http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/blackeye/hippy.gif

I think you get my point . . . http://smilies.vidahost.com/otn/animals/krakrani.gif

And yes, I don't think we want to see the board cluttered with animation. It makes the place look a bit juvenile, doesn't it?

Oh, by the way . . .

I love the Darth Vader one. Maybe I can find a bigger one to use when I post in cop bashing threads?

The piggies are cute too, but it's so 1970s....

Jeff - carefully cultivating the JBT image...one post at a time :D

First off , we gotta get you a new wardrobe.

Tennis shoes, jeans, T shirt ain't going to cut it.

Second, we gotta change your diet, eating home cooked veggies is really bad for the JBT image.

You look like a Hardware store clerk that cannot wait for customer to come in with a kid so you can play with the gum ball machine up front with the kid.

*grin*

sm,
You promised not to blow my cover....:uhoh: Now I have to buy a whole new wardrobe, let my hair grow out some and trim my mustache.

I don't guess you know where I can get some riding breeches, calf high jackboots and a new Sam Browne belt complete with shoulder straps at a good price. ;)

Jeff,

Do I have to teach you everything? *smirk*

Perceptives Jeff,
One gives off what they want to be perceived as, I was doing that just fine with the Hardware "perception".

I don't guess you know where I can get some riding breeches, calf high jackboots and a new Sam Browne belt complete with shoulder straps at a good price

You have that 80's look in the box with the Farah Faucett poster...

I liked you better with Motorcycle Boots, and Biker look with a Fu-Manchu and ponytail..

Oh well, this new look with Coyote Tan from head to toe, Tack Vest, Oakley's, Purple streak in hair, pieced nose, and toting a pair of HKs and MP5 is different.
Sure as heck got us a table in a hurry .

*smirk*

"Party of Jack Thug, your table is ready..."

One of the waitress got a splinter, Jeff just stuck his bayonet in the fireplace, and slapped iron on the finger and told her to 'suck it up and bring me my coffee".

Some things they just don't make smilies for...

Nah.

We have the basics.

Except for applause.

We need applause.

The Egyptians had lots of smilies. They covered acres of limestone and marble and other stone walls with them. They invented . . . large square-based, triangular-sided buildings.

I much prefer the Phoenician-Greek-Roman-whatever symbol method. A little more literacy is required, but don't see that as a bad thing.

Start adding hieroglyphics and pretty soon our correspondence will resemble a rebus, just before it degenerates into wholly wordless cartoons.

I vote to encourage more literacy, thanks.

Okay, here is one for Arfs:

Here is one for the mods, for thread locking:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g154/Odd_Job/smiley_aaxx.gif

Here is one for us mere mortals who can't believe how many guns 'n goodies some of you have:

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g154/Odd_Job/confused0054.gif

But here is my personal favourite. If we only ever have one more smiley on THR, this should be it. Great for 9mm vs .45 threads:

Pax, do you use firefox?

In your case, set it to "once" or "none". :)

Gee, some of our best works use imagery in conjunction with text to enhance the reading experience. Nothin' wrong with that.

Now, though, I guess I'd better read this magnificent opus:

The ESC key on your keyboard stops animations in all browsers I know of.
