Call Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Citizens Crime Commission of New York City (CCC), and say your are offended by the campaign.

http://thevoice.name/?p=4640

CNSNews.com) - A public service campaign displaying the slogan “Guns = Prison” across New York City is an affront to law-abiding firearm owners and an attempt to scare younger people from pursuing legal gun ownership, a group that supports the Second Amendment charged on Thursday.

The group added that if New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg had his way, all guns in America would be outlawed.

Each of the posters blanketing New York City contains a brief message: one proclaiming “Guns Open Doors for Young People … Prison Doors” and another simply portraying the word “JAIL” in capital letters, with the “L” as an image of a semiautomatic pistol.

At the bottom of each ad is a message that reads in smaller print: “Get Caught Carrying an Illegal Gun, Get 3 1/2 Years in Prison.”

The posters are being displayed on space donated by corporate partners, including 1,000 Verizon phone kiosks, 500 posters for restaurants, clubs and bars, 50 backlit illuminated posters, 50 outdoor display panels and 1,500 bus interior ads.

Launched by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Citizens Crime Commission of New York City (CCC) President Richard Aborn, the campaign was criticized on Thursday by Alan Gottleib, president of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)

Not that Bloomberg or his cronies will care.

However, I think a poster PROMOTING guns is in order. I'll see if I can work something up.

So the question here is, if Parker/Heller stands, can these anti-posters be used as evidence in a legal action against NYC's laws?

If Parker/Heller stands, it will constitute a major shift in the status quo. So who knows?

Define an "Illegal Gun" to me please last time I checked if you follow the constitution no gun is illegal...That being said there is Illegal ownership, and Illegal use, etc. etc. But by the constitution no gun is illegal...

The anit's use of slogans like this is what is going to continue to indoctrinate our youth to believe that guns are evil. As gun owners and entusiasts we need to speak up and educate as many of our youth as possible that gun ownership is one of the largest affirmations of this countries freedom, and should be protected.

We need to silence everyone who spews crap about guns being evil, and force them to realize that the person pulling the trigger is really the problem that needs controlled.

I wonder how the New York City cops will react when Mayor Bloomberg has them disarmed.

Will all the V I P bodyguards be disarmed or will they be the exempted few? There is a small army of armed security personel to keep the rich and famous safe from the unwashed masses.

But they won't be, because all anti-gunners think LEO's are a "higher breed" of human, who is magically more responsible with firearms than just us average people who could become LEO's. Duh.

Somehow, I'm struck by the similarity of that logic of today's anti-gunners with a political movement that gained notoriety in the 1930s and '40s, who believed that "Ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State"-H.H.

I wonder how an ad campaign portraying such similarity would be taken by the people trying to make others believe firearms are "evil"

Eightball, look at matt87's comment just beneath yours: from what he says the posters seem similar.

My hunch is that Mayor Bloomberg and the other mayors in his coalition have England in mind as their model.

The mayors don't trust the cops either and, I think, would prefer that they go unarmed unless there's a situation in which arms are essential. Then they will be issued arms that will be returned immediately after the situation is over.

Bloomberg's contempt for the New York City Police Department is well known. He praises them to the public but in private he considers them bodies. Remember that the cops are public servants and Bloomberg is a billionaire. They don't move in the same circles and, I'd bet, rarely drop in at each other's homes to shoot the breeze.

I'm reading cloud signs here but I'd bet that soon after the citizenry is made docile the cops will lose their personal firearms too, and at some point not to far from then will find themselves with a checkout system for duty weapons.

Mayor Bloomberg and his friends feel uncomfortable if they don't have complete control, and they're very good at tying up loose ends.

Of course the criminals will have weapons. They're not Bloomberg's real concern. Convicted felons don't vote and don't much care what government exists.

I'm surprised, from that link, that there's specific "firearms officers". That's just plain sad.

Yup, our everyday police are not allowed to carry anything more than CS spray (a chemical irritant like pepper spray), extendable batons, tasers etc. (To we proles, these are of course more restricted than shotguns and non-selfloading rifles...) Firearms officers are issued Glocks, MP5 'carbines' (they aren't SMGs unless crminals have them ;)) and occasionally G36s. They may also have a few PSG1s or similar. (Again, needless to say these are heavilly restricted to us...)

I thin turnabout is in order here. How about a poster that says, "Speak = Prison". Copy Bloomberg's poster word for word, including the font, and just change out the nouns.

Post them all around NYC. See what happens.

So if an illegal gun gets you 3 1/2 years of prison time, does that only apply to otherwise innocent citizens? It seem gun toting thugs caught commiting felonies don't stay in prison long enough to warrent a change of address with the post office.

Perhaps most people aren't aware that New York City's Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been pursuing this course most seriously. He has established special "gun courts" throughout the city. Here's one story about them:

While the strategy of making certain cases a priority by funneling them to the same judge in a specialized court isn't unique, gun courts have become a cornerstone of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's highly publicized crusade to discourage criminals from selling, buying and using illegal firearms in the five boroughs.

Bloomberg and judicial officials announced the opening of gun courts in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens about three years ago. Since then, the percentage of gun-possession defendants receiving one-year jail terms or longer has roughly doubled, city officials said.

The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office alone has handled roughly 1,100 cases in gun court since 2003, with about a 90 percent conviction rate. More than half the defendants are between the ages of 16 to 21 years old. Most were caught carrying semiautomatic handguns.

Prosecutors in Brooklyn demand a minimum one-year sentence, even for first-time offenders who technically could receive probation. If defendants don't agree to do the time, they're forced to go to trial, often within six months _ lightning speed for the courts. If convicted, they could go away for two years or longer.

"We see every possession of a gun as a potential homicide," said Sue-Ellen Bienenfeld, who supervises six prosecutors assigned to the Brooklyn gun court. "We don't want to wait for somebody to actually be killed."

The country's first gun court was established in Providence, R.I., in 1994. They later turned up in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Milwaukee and elsewhere _ part of a trend that also produced drug, truancy and domestic violence courts.

Advocates say such so-called specialty courts resolve cases with more efficiency and consistency. But some legal experts question their value.

Legal experts that question the value of Mayor Bloomberg's gun courts--or anything else he does--miss the point and need to get immediate counseling. Michael Bloomberg is the law throught the five boroughs of New York City and in all adjacent territory from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans, from the Canadian to the Mexican borders.

Whatever Mayor Bloomberg says is what you will do, because Mayor Bloomberg knows what's good for you. And if you know what's good for you, you will do whatever he says.

So let's not support the NRA and let's all vote for a third party candidate in the next election. Let's send him a message and show him how good thinkers were all be. ;)

Of course you haven't. Criminals tend to be modest and unassuming, especially the law abiding criminals one finds in New York City since Michael Bloomberg became mayor. You have a much higher class of criminals there than in other parts of the country.

Unless you are licensed, possession of an air pistol is always a violation of NYCAC. In addition, many stores sell authentic-looking toy guns, possession of which may well be illegal. I would not recommend that parents buy any toy guns for their children.

Look what was in another section of that ask the DA website, thats some crazy stuff.

riding the subway today. On the F Line from Coney Island to Jamaica Queens. The F line, the N line, and the IRT 4, 5, 6, and 1, 2, 3 seems to have all the putrid posters defacing the train interiors.

No matter how Bloomberg tries to ban guns and promote celebrity filth and materialism, he can't win...........Not when young and fiery people like me have joined the NRA.

Just yesterday at work, I convinced two of my colleagues to join the NRA. I told them how to sign up and where to go and everything about activism and most importantly: THE PRESERVATION OF FREEDOM.

Oh yeah, speaking of calling, I am drafting a letter at this minute, addressing the CCC of their mistake, and another one addressed to the NRA informing them of the goings-on in NYC. I am not the only one offended by these billboards. In fact, I am so offended that I had to change cars during my subway ride to avoid looking at it. I can stand sitting next to vagrants at night who are often drunk beyond comprehension and have vomited all over themselves, I just cannot stand to sit in front of a billboard that is advertising a false and hurtful claim. I CAN'T!!!!!!!!! I WILL NOT STAND THERE AND LET THINGS GO ON AS IT IS!!!!!!!

In regards to this "mandatory" sentencing of 3 and 1/2 years in prison and the Brooklyn DA'S office 90% conviction rate..

I have arrested recidivist felons with charges ranging from assault 3, robbery, etc. in addition to CPW charges and have seen the Brooklyn DA's "convict" B and C felonies down to misdemeanor charges with the offender sentenced to 96 days in jail. In one of my cases, I had a guy beat the tar out of his old lady and search incidental to arrest revealed a loaded Taurus 9mm with one in the pipe and a Rohm revolver. Both weapons came back stolen out of two different states. Real bad ass criminal, with a record that predates the damn computer records. ADA fresh out of law school shakey as hell ended up pleading the case out to 30 days...for ALL the charges. Tada..90% conviction rate.

Law abiding Joe Schmoe with a secure job who carries for personal protection will pay the maximum price for this..mark my words.

I looked around nyc for some gun ranges, and the one I found in brooklyn has a website. In it part of the range's regulations it says you MUST have a nyc pistol permit to use their facilities... :fire:

Do I have to go to another state to get in some range time?

Now I will fess up, I voted for bloomberg his first term. If you saw the other choices available to us you would understand why... :(

There is no such a thing as a republican in nyc, none whatsoever irregardless of bloomberg's party registration. They are all socialist in one way or another. If its not one thing than its another.

IMO if someone tried to run as a republican, libertarian they would probably be laughed out of the city. This is the city and state that voted in hillary and schumer at a more than 70% rate!

There's also a woman in ny state who ran on strictly an anti-gun platform and was elected...

Unfortunately, even the mere handling of a legally obtained firearm by someone who is not licensed to do so by the NYPD can be construed as Criminal Poss. of a Weapon. If you have already applied for your NYC Pistol License, contact the license division and get a pre licensing exemption. It's basically a letter you can bring to the range and apply for membership (remember you HAVE to belong to a range to possess a pistol license) that states you are in the process of obtaining your license. Then, if you handle a weapon its all legal. Shoot to your hearts content.

not true in new york city. in the past there was a "target" permit as well as premise permit which allowed possesion for range shooting but is no longer on the books. There is only the Premise permit now which allows for possesion in one's home and allows for transport (locked in case sans ammo) to from range

Mayor Bloomberg is a fascist. I lived in NYC for 33 years and was the victim of crime several times ( armed robbery) while going to and from work. The NYC gun ban only serves to disarm those (like me) that do not break the law. By the way were you aware that mayor Bloomberg is the owner of Bloomberg financial. So if any of you have bonds or IRAs with Bloomberg financial you are unwittingly lining the pockets of a VERY real threat to our firearm ownership.Just a heads up.
