I have an M1A and just ordered a Trijicon AccuPoint 1.25-4x.

What do I need to attach the thing to my M1A? ARMS #18 and #22? Help a brother out! :o

Skunk, the ARMS #18 mount with #22 rings is a good combination if you want a quick detach mount. However, many people have started to report problems with the new redesigned #18 mount. The original mount had rails at the front and rear, but was open in the middle. The new mount has a rail running the entire lenght of the mount. More than a few people have reported problems with the new setup. Empty cases are bouncing off the rail and dropping back into the action causing a jam. The ARMs #18 was always a low mount, but the old open design avoided the problem. It has also been reported that it is extremely difficult or impossible to remove the bolt from the receiver with the new #18.

If you can find an original ARMS #18, I would go for it. Combine that with the #22 rings and you have a quick detach scope setup that's second to none.

Another possibility would be to look at the Smith Enterprises mount. It's an almost exact copy of the highly regarded Brookfield mount. Even with the full length rail, I have not heard of people having the same problems as the new ARMS #18. The Smith mount does sit higher than the ARMS #18, but iron sights are still usable if you take the scope and rings off. If you want a quick detach option, you can couple the Smith mount with a set of the new Warne quick detach rings. With the higher sight line of the Smith mount, a cheek pad is almost mandatory for good sight picture. I'd recommend a Scope-EZE removable pad from Brownells.

Whatever you do, stay away from the SA 3rd gen mount.

i just put the new ARMS 18 on my bush rifle along with ARMS 22 or whatever the aimpoint mount is called.......anyway i've been having some stovepipes with my reloads where it falls back into the mount.....i changed to a GI extractor and the problem has almost gone away (however "almost " could get you killed in the right situation}....as far as the bolt comming out for cleaning ...that is a nonissue with my rifle....it comes right out...pretty much as before....i still would rather have my setup that any of the SA mounts....DICK

What's the point of the QD feature if I still can't use the irons? Might as well make it not so quick?

How are the Smith rings?
