Caliber missing?

Ok, I am looking for something new. I have a 700 5R in 308 and a 700 in 243. I am getting a t/c pro-hunter and will get a 308 barrel, but I was thinking about another caliber. I will not be elk/caribou hunting, but just about every thing else is fair game. I though about a 280 or a 7mm-08. I think these calibers are really to close to the 308 to give me much of a variety. I really would like to stay away from the belted magnums. I reload so that will save costs over factory ammo. Is there something I am over looking to give me a better spread to cover all my options?

Yes, the .260 Rem, the most versatile of the .308 family.

7.62x54r. Get a Finn Mosin and some Norma brass and handload. Commercial 203gr. rounds are available.

How about .358 Winchester? Good for Elk, Caribou, Moose, Blacl Bear, etc. My favorite from the .308 family.

The quarter bore, or .25-06, could be a good option, although its not too much of a step up in capability from the .243. Another fun one on the other end of the spectrum would be the .35 whelen.

Getting a different gun is not an option, just looking for another barrel for the exisiting one. benatilstae: I thought about that, but had the same revervations about the differences. The 35 whelen sounds like it might be a good option. Is there a lot of differences between the 35 whelen and the 358 winchester? I do not know much about either one.

RC;

Woof came sooo close! He only missed it by that much.:evil:

Ignore the rampantly redundant .260, and go to the original, the 6.5 X 55 Swedeish Mauser. Ask for opinions, you can getcher very own highly heated dicussion going.

How bout the 284 winchester. I've used two guns in it and had great experience (Ruger 77 and Win 100). Same ballistics as the 280 remington and since you have a single shot,load those heavy bullets out as far as you like. Very accurate case design, 6.5-284 is another good one. I thought that T/C's custom shop (forgot what they call it) makes barrels for it.
