Cleaning .22 Magnum?

Last Friday I picked up my first .22 Magnum, a Savage Model 93GL. After I shot it this weekend I took out the bolt and wiped it down with FP-10, and took a q-tip with FP-10 on it and cleaned the rear face of the barrel.

I did not run any patches through the bore. I generally don't do so with my other .22s, but this is my first .22 Mag. So I'm wondering if I should clean the bore.

What do you .22 Mag rifle shooters do?

I'm a clean freak when it comes to my guns. I do the barrels in all of my .22 firearms, including the .22WMRs. But that's just me. You shouldn't see any more residue in the magnum than you see in your other .22 rifles.

My .22 WMR's barrel seems to get dirty faster than any of my .22LRs, so I got myself a .22 cal bore snake and every 25 rounds or so clean the thing. It's really fast and easy with the bore snake...

I run the Patchworm from 20/20 concepts through my .22 wmr and .22 rifles once maybe every 2,000 rnds, if I remember. Haven't seen any drops in accuracy. My .22 barrel shoots better fouled. YMMV

Every 25 rounds!!!! WOW! I shoot upwards of 70 - 100 rounds in an outing to the pasture. I don't even wipe the thing down afterwards usually. I probably clean my .22 every month weather it needs it or not. You must have about the shiniest guns in the world with all that cleaning...

Well my .22 WMR is a single shot, shoting 50 rounds can take all day :) and cleaning a single shot is a peice of cake, particularly with a boresnake...

But I am a bit of a clean freak when it comes to my guns in general. I like to keep them as clean as possible...

I have a Marlin 882 bolt action .22mag........I shoot it and clean it just as I do any of my other rifles........take it to the range, shoot it all day......clean it when I come home.

I've put around 500 rounds of CCI .22WMR through my Remington 597 without any degradation of accuracy that I can detect.

However, don't follow my example... I've been meaning to clean the 597 as a matter of principle for the past 200 rounds but never seem to get around to it.
