Weaver Classic Extreme 1.5-4.5x24 Illuminated scope

Anybody seen reviews on these? Seems like a decent, relatively inexpensive iluminated variable. It is also 1" smaller than most budget illuminated variables:). I plan on using it as an all purpose scope for an AR, and am leaning towards the reticle on the left.

A couple of concerns.

1. Does the dot show well in bright sunlight?

2. When the illum is off, is there a black dot or just the intersection of the crosshairs?
