Hi- my Dad gave me an Enfield No. 1 Mk III with a broken butt stock. Does anyone know if 'furniture' from an Enfield No. 4 Mk I would fit?

Thanks!

Bob

Hey sandanbob,
from what I understand, the No. 4 stock should fit but you'll probably have to use the old butt stock bolt since the No. 4 design was changed slightly for mass production. The No. 1 Mk III requires the forestock to be removed before the butt stock bolt is undone (otherwise you risk cracking the forestock). The No. 4 does not.

There's a list of changes between the two rifles here: http://www.marstar.ca/RifleNo4.htm

According to them, apart from a few changes everything else is interchangable.

Good luck. When you're done, you'll have a fantastic rifle. :)

Cypher1024- thanks for your comments. I'll be ordering some new wood this week!

Be warned that Enfield buttstocks came in different lengths. European troops usually got medium or long stocks while small stature troops from the far east got short stocks.

The one I am looking at is in the latest Century Arms catalog, page 22, if that helps. I don't see any dimensions on it.
