Playing (shooting) in Peoria

On Wednesday it was announced in my boxing club that we are having a "surprise" inspection from our instructor's instructor in Peoria. I have only a short time to dry clean, polish and work on cleaning up my form(s).

The review is only to last 6 to 8 hours each day, Saturday (boxing) and Sunday (weapons). That means I will be spending a pleasant night in Peoria.

Any suggestions for public shooting ranges?

Suggestions for sushi, Thai or Indian would be appreciated as well.:)

TIA, Kirk

Don't live near there, though I hear that there's a place called "Big Al's" or something like that that is a good place for entertainment...:D

You've alluded to the "boxing club" before and it sounds interesting. Could you give some more details?

El Tejon,
Let me check with some people who live in that area.

Harold, "Big Al's" apparently you know me fairly well and I have run my fool mouth about afterhours during gun skuls trips.:D However, I will not be a lone volk on this trip and have to give the illusion of good behavior for the young lions.

"Boxing Club" is Qixing Tang Lang Chuan (Seven Star Praying Mantis Boxing). Yeah, I'm a geek, so be it. This is us [such a handsome bunch:rolleyes:]: (

Jeff, thanks for checking. I appreciate your time.

That's a nicely-done web site. I wish that they had a little more info on the style, though. I realize now after seeing the name that I have met Dwight Edwards before, many years ago.

Ah, I wish that I still lived in the Indianapolis area. About as soon as I moved away from Westfield, a BJJ class was beginning there and I see that Ken Campbell has gotten a good start on bringing a lot of cool firearms and related training to the area. Oh, well...I can't complain about moving to a lower cost-of-living area with a more stable job bringing in a greater salary, though.

Never been to Big Al's but I hear that it's an awesome stop for those so-inclined to frequenting such places.

Thanks for the info.

El Tejon,
Just spoke with a friend of mine in the ARNG aviation unit in Peoria. The closest public shooting range anyone there today knew of was in Bloomington. :(

Chillicothe Sportsmans Club - (309) 274-9988 (from the yellow pages)
They usually have matches scheduled on the weekends but I doubt they would have a problem with an out of town guest either participating in the cowboy/ppc/ipsc/skeet/idpa/dcm/nhrma/gsa or whatever kind of matches they're running this weekend.

Don't know nuthin bout no Tai, Indian, or Sushi food though - I'm more of a corporate white bread chain restaraunt kinda guy. Um there they got most of the basics covered - applebees, famous daves, olive garden, outback, etc.

If I wasn't working a sixteen on saturday and a twelve on sunday, I'd show you around.

Have fun

Peoria is boring as can be. Foreign food to them is called, "Spaghetti". ;) Have fun!

El Tejon,

I went to your school's website. What can you tell me about your Mui Faa Kune set?

Taco Bell ... ?:D

Slightly off topic, but ...
Next time you're in the Brownsburg/Plainfield/Avon area, check out Thai One On (in Avon on the north side of 36 where Cub Foods used to be - a few miles east of 267). Wonderful little Thai place with some truly excellent food and live jazz on Friday nights ... great if you're escorting a young and nubile companion who likes jazz.

And then drop by Plainfield Shooter's Supply to keep it gun related.

Sounds like a martial arts movie...

Skunk, wise guy, movies, feh.:D [whispering voice] "Skunk, is Tai Chi II out on DVD yet?":D

cordex, way ahead of ya. Parents had me down when it opened. MPFreeman chills in the B'burg metroplex and hangs at PSS. He's the untactical one who is always complaining what a moron his brother is.:p

Jeff, thanks for checking. Oh, well, we'll go when we go to Memphis. Dig that indoor range down there the most.

falconer, to keep it gun related (and to keep it real in da 'hood), I can tell you it doesn't involve firearms.;)

There's a range called Darnell's in the country about 5 miles west of Bloomington. I took a class there in April. Nice place.

lee, yes, I have the T-shirt from Darnell's.:D Have taken classes there as well, but looking for Peoria as it will be a quick range trip between class and supper in the late afternoon/evening.
