This isn't really something I'm looking to research, but I thought some here might find it interesting or just get a kick out of it. These are the boxes of .38 Special ammo that my dad had accumulated over the years. Most of them are full, but I have no clue how many still have the original shells inside.

Several have price tags. The old Western box in the middle was priced at $4.50 or 9 cents each. Each? LOL. The Remington box on the right has an "Otasco" price tag at $5.99. I recall that stood for "Oklahoma Tire and Supply Co" and I think they closed their store in my old home town in ~1972.

This is the pistol these rounds were for. When dad went to plain clothes detective work (and started carrying a snub nose), mom sent this pistol off and had it engraved from one end to the other. It's got dad's name & the date he hired on at the PD on it and since we have the same name and he started at the PD on my birthday, that works out quite nicely for both of us. :) I'm sure it's not worth much to anyone else, but it's priceless to me.

Anyway, just wanted to share these before I put them away. Hope someone got a smile from it.

I don't know what model it is, we just always called it "Dad's service revolver". I'll look more closely at it tonight or this weekend.

Very nice - thanks for sharing. :)
Some of those ammo boxes bring back memories.
That gun is absolutely purdy! What a beautiful family heirloom and story, complete with your mom being involved.

Looking at the wikipedia page, I think you are correct. Dad began on the force in 1952 but I don't know that this was his first service revolver. This may be the only gun in the house that's younger than me.

Did you think I made it up?
If post 1957 it will have the model number inside the yoke.
There is probably somebody on the board who could look up the year made by the serial number, but I don't have the book.

the serial number from the butt is a K with 6 digits, that would place it somewhere between late 47 to early 50

Not at all. Believe me, I appreciate the info you've contributed in this thread and others as well. I just took the name you provided and looked it up, compared pictures & descriptions, etc. I like doing stuff like that. I should have thanked you for giving me the name to search on.
