While admiring Oleg's fine work, I began wondering- What would be the start up costs of a flint lock pistol, and all the bits and bobs? Do you antique-ers have fun with these?

I ask because a friend of mine is a student of history, and an anti. My primary hobby is firearms, and I wouldn't mind picking up a nice older piece or functioning replica that I am sure will thrill him and get that "aha" moment. I don't want to spend much for an arm I will fire 10-25 times total and store as a display piece. I figure around 200 dollars, for everything one may need, is what I am willing to spend at this time. Who would you all chose to buy from? Is 200 enough or am I undercutting it a bit?

Thanks in advance - Jdude

You are in the right ballpark. You can get a flintlock pistol kit for anywhere between $150-200. If you get a basic one for $150, you'll still have some $ leftover for obligatory balls, patches, powder measure, etc.
