I own this vest pocket semi, acquired in Europe 50 years ago.
Could this stand for Frantisek Dusek from Opotschno?
I have not be able to find a picture of his .25 guns.

It's definitely possible; Dusek sold his guns under at least 4 or 5 different names, but they all looked something like a Browning Vest Pocket without a grip safety. They all should also have Czech proofs on them, which look like a standing lion in a shield. Have you got a picture of the pistol you're looking at?
"F. Dusek Duo Semi-Automatic Pistol, Made in Opotschno, Czechoslovakia, .25 ACP with 2" barrel, blue steel, 6-round magazine, black DUO grips, markings on the slide are as follows: AUTOMAT PISTOLE "DUO" CAL 635 F DUSEK, OPOTSCHNO 43 Gun has a few small rust spots on front of slide, bore is in like new condition, overall condition is excellent. " $225
Dusek DUO. "The pistol trade-name DUO was an acronym for "Dusek in Opocno" and the DUO pistol may also be called the "Jaga." These were produced between 1920 and 1948 and are a small copy of the FN 1906 pocket-pistol. The modern CZ factory produced a "DUO" model in .25 caliber through 1958."

DUO's are excellent pistols, well-made and reliable. The design is basically a copy of the Browning 1905 "Vest Pocket" pistol (not the later "Baby Browning").
Value is not extremely high (around $150-250 depending on condition) but they are good for what they were made for.

anyone know if the mfg date or individual history can be traced through the serial number. Mine has a brown leather holster that appears to be hand made or cut down from a larger model.

Short answer, No, theres no way to trace the manf. date or history. In a case like this the serial number means nothing,

If the Duo was manufactured between 1920 to 1948 I have one with a serial number 72250.....would it be correct to assume it was probably manufactured in the late 20's or early 30's?
I assume from the postings that there is no record of serial numbers and dates of manufacture?

Any idea as to how many may have been produced and would I be correct in my assumption that my Duo is pre WWII?

I would say it would be a good bet it is pre 1940. Unless someone else has more info.
