Does Aguila make durable, reliable, quality ammo?
Does it fall in the category of or close to Ammo Companies like S&B or Fiocchi?
Is it close to the Top 3(Fed, Rem & Win)?

I buy Aguila std velocity .22 ammo through the CMP. So far, no complaints. Some of the guys I shoot Bullseye with, have complained of light rounds, but I have not run across any. I consider it much better than Remington std velocity; I've had lots of misfires with the Rem. It seems just as accurate as Federal 711B and a lot less expensive.

reliable, accurate and innovative stuff, that is made in mexico, and stinks like hell(eley compound).

I like to load up super colibris in a henry lever action for near silent pest control (20gr 500fps) actually quieter than a suppressed rifle with full power loads, and pleny powerful enough to keep the critters away.

They also have the SE loaded hot, and their target stuff is cheap and accurate.

outside of the super colibris, I don't normally use a lot of their other stuff, as win and federal bulk packs are cheaper, and shoot almost as well, and velocitors are basically the last word in full power 22lr, they have a standard length case, unlike the stingers. I do get the occasional eley or aguilia match loads for "serious" target work, or testing mods to a gun.

There are a whole class of 22 shooters that swear by the 60gr SSS stuff though, with custom 1 in 9 twist barrels (they tumble in standard 22 barrels), and target shooting at 200yds, a lot of people use them to take fairly big critters (for a 22) and lots of folks use suppressors with them.(subsonic, so no "crack", I have been thinking of getting a 1 in 9 threaded barrel with a suppressor for my 10/22 for this purpose.

My only experience with Aguila has been in their .30 Carabina (Carbine). Since I clean my weapons after each session, I really don't notice how dirty it is, or smell, etc...
I have no complaints since it was the cheapest at the Gun Shows...:)

I use Aquila's standard velocity and Interceptor stuff in both rifles and semi-auto pistols. Accurate and goes bang every time.

I'm a total Aguila fanboy, only complaint is the hard rim fire cases don't always work in a couple types of pistols, that's small potatoes. The .22LR Aguila Supermax is like having a .22mag, totally awesome.

I like Aguila ammo. It smells a little funny, but it shoots just as reliably and as accurately as Fiocchi, S&B, Winchester, or Remington.

Darn good ammo and yes it does stink. Never had a missfire or dud. Can't say that about remington's famous golden bullet.

Never noticed the stink. The super colibris are a RIOT in a long gun. Their hypermzx stuff doesn't feed well in my 22/45, but works great in everything else. I love their ammo.

I like shooting it but yes it smells bad. Smells like a combination of burning plastic and manure.

It does smell a little funny. More importantly, I bought some of those high velocity bullets that didn't cycle reliably in my 10/22 standard magazines. The high capacity 25-30 rounders did fine. I'm sure it has something to do with the slightly longer case.

Wouldn't know about the Aguila factory ammunition, but the cases (.45 ACP) sure reload good...

Bushmaster- I agree, Aguila is some of my favorite brass! It's holds the factory annealing better than the big domestic producer's cases.

Thank You everyone for taking the time to respond!

What's up with the unusual smell? What does Aquila load in their rounds down there in Mexico that makes it smell so bad?

That "smell" comes from the compound used in the primer (Eley). Maybe we're just not used to it, but I agree that it 'smells' bad.

My recent experience with the super colibris has been positive. They really are a riot. You could spend less money on an old single shot .22 and a few boxes of super colibris than you would spend on a decent air rifle. Shooting them out of my ruger 10/22 (manually cycled) is more quiet than .177 pellets from my Crosman Quest 1000.

Alucard, I have heard of the 1/9 twist barrels but have never seen any for sale. Do you know where to get one?

I used to have a squirrel problem at my old house. I used the super colibri out of a 10/22 to kill them. In texas it is illeagle to shoot them with an air rifle. I did it anyway but i liked not having to pump up my gun. The best shot i made was at 27 yards. The squirrel was sitting on a fence post looking straight at me and i hit him square on the end of the nose. I even killed one oppossum with the super colibris.

or a ciener 22 kit for an AR (1 in 9) works well also

Aguila .22lr Standard Velocity shoots ok, but I can't use it in my High Standard target pistol because the case diameter runs large and I have extraction problems.

It works great in my S&W K-22.

glad to help, keep us posted, prefferably with pics:)

here is a gelatin test of the 60grainer 16" of penetration with a 22:what:. The guy at the range that had a suppressed 10/22 (where I heard about the barrel swap) was shooting a ragged hole at 25yds, and the loudest noise was the bolt cycling http://www.brassfetcher.com/Aguila%20Sniper%20SubSonic%2060%20grain%20lead%20round%20nose.html

I bought a case of 180gr .40 once. It seemed like it was loaded pretty hot. It went bang every time, but both my Glock 22 and 27 choked on it.

but both my Glock 22 and 27 choked on it.Elaborate please - describe choked because I never experienced a single failure with my Glock 22 and I put some pretty crappy ammo thru it. Heck - even the Glock haters will readily admit that they're among the if not the most reliable handguns around and will shoot practically anything fed to it.

Based on my personal experience with Aquila ammo I find it hard to believe that a Glock of any type would choke on Aquila.

I agree agree Aguila .40S&W 180gr FMJ is plenty hot -- recoil is stouter than 180gr Winchester Ranger-T 180gr JHP LEO ammo.

Also agree the brass reloads very well. Since its been the cheapest gun show ammo here for quite a while, I've shot lots of it in .40 and .45, with no issues in any of my guns that work with other ammo.

I've an EAA Witness-P in .40S&W that I've been trying to make reliable and Aguila lets me know I've failed without wasting a lot of ammo -- triggers the issue in this gun usually within five shots, other ammo usually goes a mag or two. I may finally have it figured out as last time shot a box of Aguila thru it without a failure!

I'd check the mag springs in your Glocks if they have problems with Aquila, IMHO just a matter of time before the issue shows up with other ammo -- perhaps at a most inopportune time.
