D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton said the bill is an attack on home rule since the District doesn't have protection from senators or full legal rights. She also said freer access to guns would cause more murder and mayhem in the city.

The absolute lack of logical thought in that combination of statements makes my brain hurt. :banghead:

DC's government, time and time again, has proven itself incapable of full Home Rule.

For a supposed legislator, Holmes-Norton seems to have a particularly dismal understanding of the Constitution and what it would require for DC to become a state.

If anything, DC should be reintegrated with Maryland.

Virginia got its contribution back 150 years ago.

-Yes, D.C. citizens should have the right to arm themselves.
-No, there are already enough guns in D.C.

Well, obviously the problem is that the guns are NOT in the hands of the law abiding folks, who actually need them!

Sheesh, it's not rocket science, it's freaking simple!

Ya also notice how just about EVERY online poll that ever comes up favors armed civilians?

Is there really any doubt as to what the right answer is?

It seems that the debate is only alive in the minds of the folks who would revise what 2a is really about.

This reflects neither the correctness of our position nor any numerical majority on our part. It probably simply means that we are better at getting our friends to vote in these polls. I hope we aren't misled into thinking we can let up on the education and politicking that still lies ahead.

If anything, DC should be reintegrated with Maryland.

The best proposal for this that I've seen would keep the Mall area as D.C. -- the Capitol to the Lincoln Monument, with the adjacent federal buildings (Federal Triangle, etc.). But the rest of D.C. would revert back to Maryland. Maryland would jump at the chance to get all the rich NW citizens as tax payers, but I'd bet you'd have to talk the state into taking Anacostia.

But let us get CCW passed in Ohio first. I think after the first few Bad Guys go down, the rest will relocate to Cleveland.....Next nearest dis-armed state, I think, after Maryland & NJ.

And I agree w/telewinz...plenty of guns apparent in DC after sunset. Too bad most are in the hands of the BG's

The right to keep and bear arms is universal, and is Constitutionally guaranteed to ALL American citizens. Of course they should. :)

Amazing. NBC actually phrased it so that the "Yes" part was about the right to self defense.

As bad as it seems to be in DC, I would think a local draft of armed young men and women to help patrol the streets would be welcomed. When are those folks going to stand up and say, "Enough is enough!"
