Benchrest shooting

Can anyone here recommend any web sites or books on the subject of benchrest shooting? I am doing a report for school and am having trouble finding information about the sport. One thing I'm looking for in particular is information regarding what distances are shot at and how different cartidges compare to each other at different distances. Also, does anyone know if there are multi-distance competitions where the groups are measured across a wide spectrum of short, medium, and long ranges?

I'm of the impression that .22 calibers dominate at ultra-close ranges, 6 mm cartidges take over past 100 meters and dominate out to about 300 meters, the .308 Winchester is the only cartidge that is even remotley competitive from 400 meters to 800 meters, the .30 caliber Magnums dominate until you get out to well past 1,00 yards, and the .338 and .50 calibers take over at extreme ranges.

Info on .22 benchrest can be found at www.rimfirecentral.com.

Walmart here sells a book by Glenn Newick, "The Ultimate In Rifle Accuracy," which discusses benchrest shooting.

A search on one of the big search engines should turn up some more sources.
