I was looking at an 878 yesterday, and I'd never seen one before. Does anybody have any experience with these shotguns? Are they reliable, etc? Any idea about what one would be worth?

This one was in good shape, with the 30" full choked barrel. It just need cleaning. I was considering it as a possible trap gun.

Any help is appreciated.

My dad bought me one when I turned 16 in 1960.
It was my first good shotgun.
It worked perfectly and I killed a lot of quail & Prairie Chicken with it.

I loved it, because it was the first gas operated shotgun I had ever fired, and it seemed it just didn't kick at all!

It was kind of an economy version of the 58 Sportsman, Remingtons first gas gun.

But they only made about 60,000 total 878's from 1959 to 1962.
The 1100 came out in 1963 and ended the Sportsman 58 & 878.
The 1100 was a much improved gun.

Today, I wouldn't buy one for any extensive use, because parts are long gone!

Thanks guys, that's what I was wanting.

It sounds like it might be a lot of fun, but I'll probably just hold off and get an 1100 eventually.

I've added shotgunworld.com to my favorites, so I've got another resource now, thanks for the link 41.
