Well I have a chance to buy a almost brand new ( 3 boxes fired) hi point 9mm rifle.... For $100

Is this a good deal?

Can hi capacity magazines be obtained?

Does it function well?

What are your thoughts on the rifle?

Sounds like a good deal to me. It is a fun plinker and reliability is usually pretty good for a plinker. The company support is AMAZING. Most people that have sent their gun in get back a free mag or two when the gun is returned "just because". I've heard some bad things about parts breaking, but when the company stands behind them to the point of fixing everything for free I wouldn't worry about it that much. They cost around $200 new. Once again, they have a lifetime, no questions asked repair policy.

I would have bought it, for $100 and not bothered to post a "should I buy", but a "Look at my new rifle" post. All I find around here are in .40 S&W and $250 new.

I have one,i'd buy 5 more at $100 each in that condition!!!!!
You can buy 15 rd mags,but don't waste your$$$

The only problem I ever have with mine is it doesn't like
10 rds in the mag. She will have failure to chamber 50% of
the time with the first round of a fully loaded 10 rd mag.
I've learned to load 9 rds. and she is 100%.
She is a very good shooter at short ranges(50-75 yds.)

Guy I worked with last year had both the pistol and rifle.

He changed out the stock for the ATI ($60) and added a red-dot sight.

He was killing bottles at 150 yards.

He grinned and said it "took all the sport out of it."

For $100?

All day, every day.

That's a good price -- about half what they retail for.

And the thing is, the factory will refurbish your gun for free and send you two magazines. You just have to swing the shipping charge.

So yes, $100 is a deal.

I've had mine for 4 years. When it works, everyone wants to shoot it being so darn fun. Got a red dot on top that makes it very user friendly.

A couple things, try and find a powder solvent that won't eat plastic. It's a real PITA to take the gun apart, and even then you won't get at the depths of the receiver. Just hose it down with whatever you find then hit with some lube, and do it often as the metal is very soft.

I hear the ATI stock is marvelous, but frankly the regular one is just fine IMO.

Yep, it's a deal. Good little carbine, ugly as homemade sin but a solid shooter.

Stick with FACTORY 10-round magazines though. If you want to doll it up for range fun, put on a cheap red dot sight and forget bigger magazines. Just get extra 10 rounders. As ugly as it is (unless you put on the ATI stock so it looks like a Beretta Storm), it may turn out to be your favorite centerfire plinker.

theres no carbine specific hicaps. but iv been told the pistol high caps will fit, with some tweaking.

Strangely enough I just bought my dad a H&R Pardner 12ga for $100 in trade for the 9mm Hi Point Carbine he had.

He only paid $50 for it at a garage sale so we both made out like bandits.

I like the idea of the ATi stock with the red dot sight, but one thing at a time...

I am somewhat critical of the Hi-points. However, for $100, the risk is minimal, and more likely than not, you will endf up with a good gun that is a blast to shoot.

I personally like the 995's looks/ ergonomics, and I'm 6'0. The peep sights are nice too.

I have experienced some reliability problems with mine, however, Hi-Point has a great reputation for standing behind the rifle for it's lifetime, even if you are not the original owner. YMMV.

There is a cuple companies that make hi-caps. One is a 15 round stick. The other was a highly modified Suomi drum- Somebody on Hi-Point Forums was selling them---> costly, but VERY hi-cap.

Yes, very good deal. I paid about $170 for a NIB one about a year ago.

Lots of fun and relatively cheap to shoot. Ugly as sin though...
