So, I really want to get an AK with rails and such so I can attach all sorts of fun doo-dads.

I know, I know, it is blasphemy, but it is something I want to do. Right now I'm looking at this: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=276

Are there are any other good options for a "ready-to-go" railed AK, or should I start with some basic version and build on to it? I'd like to get something ready to go, just because I don't have a lot of interest in tinkering like some folks are.

my vote is, if your gunna blow the money on do dads, get a quality gun to start. consider a tromix saiga.

the atlantics have a better rep than the WASR's but the WASR's are cheaper

If you want a railed AK you can go with that Lancaster or you could get an AK and add this rail from CAA:

This rail system give you the most rails for mounting your mall ninja accessories. I think there is even enough room for a cupholder.:neener:

So you hold your head upright about 6" above(varying heights are good for getting varying impacts) the underfolder stock with that rail and high boy optics. Then when you speed load the AK correctly by knocking out the old mag with the new you find your empty didn't clear the vertical foregrip.

gordon, ya forgot to mention the fixed rail right ovr the dustcover impeding pulling the bolt and cleaning as opposed to a removable side rail mounted rail that can be slid on/off the posp rail etc...

For a ready built, the Atlantic is fine, the Rommy G kit they start with is a real milspec AK as ya will see in the hands of soldiers around the world if ya pay attention (they are easily spotted by the original wood forend vertical grip) the Saiga is not, its a modified made for civilian commercial sale sporter that can be sold retail for $250 that is then modified to look like a real AK........ The unconditional lifetime warranter is a big plus with Atlantic , I've been torture testing 3 of those UTG front end kits for 2 weeks so far for a major class 2 manufacturer with military contracts and so far its actually holding up just as well as the Ultimak setup that costs twice as much (the UTG rail HG runs $60) I don't use those Cr@pco stocks though on my tricked out Rommy builds but rather use a milled aluminum adapter that mounts a real true milspec M4 stock which allows for an 8 oz mercury buffer inside the buffer tube as opposed to the molded junk, I then use a MTK-02 Side rail riveted to the reciever with a low profile Russian made side scope mount utilizing a Picatinny rail that sits right ontop of the dust cover allowing ya to cowitness irons through a 1X optic such as a red dot it can be removed in a couple seconds and replaced without effecting zero at all, I pull the original 6" rail off the $40 mount and replace it with a full length rail that runs from back of dustcover right up to the rear sight allowing you to mount an optic magnifier on the rear rail behind a 1X red dot if ya wish, An RPK windage adjustable rear sight with tritium inserts replaces the standard rear sight and a Trijicon tritium front post replaces the front sight post, add a tiny day visible green laser to the front of the lower rail (intended for use on handguns with rails) and ya have 3 sighting options to fall back on, do not use any vertical front grip that does not utilize a metal mounting clamp with a metal grip frame for the grip itself as the aluminum absorbs a huge amount of heat that just kills any plastic vertical grips, the vertical grip must be a foldable type or limit yourself to 20 rnd mags for reliable mag swaps........ I don't advocate tossin or slapping mags outa the gun, thats a gamer/mall ninja only maneuver that can get ya killed in real combat as in real life ya don't get to go back huntin for your mags, once ya get an ammo resupply ya better have all your mags or your screwed as they don't resupply with mags but rather loose ammo or strippers..... if your mags are damaged or missing then you now have a new MOS its called "TARGET" since your weapon is now useless with no way to feed it ammo.....

Mall Ninja? You want a WASR-10 (unless you can find something cheaper). Find some furniture with rails, and go to town.

Now, if you want a serious rifle, instead of a wannabe, pretend to be, rifle.....

Ahh, nitpicking :) Serious combat in the food court and you will never notice all that......

Rather than try to talk you out of what you said you want...

Go ahead and get the lancaster. I am a self proclaimed lancaster junkie, the service and product are both exceptional. If anything is wrong they will make it right.

If you decide later that you don't want the rails can't you just remove them and sell them on the EE?:D
