Hello.

I'm trying to help a co-worker refurbish an old Sears model 35A .22 which was given to him. He took it apart and then called me with some questions.

1. The extractor looks broken. The actual claw part seems as if it should have two small claws, one on top of the other, and the top one appears broken off at the tip. Does this part look broken or is it supposed to be that way?

2. The bolt's rear right side has a hole machined through it almost all the way to the extractor. Inside is a long coil spring. When my friend took out the spring there was a nail inside. I suppose it was acting as a guide rod or it assisted in reassembling the gun. Was there supposed to be a metal rod in there with the spring or did someone take it upon themselves to do this? If there was a piece in there what was it called and what is the spring called?

Thanks.

Numrich gun parts Corp. has most of the schematics available. I did a quick and dirty. Sears 35. Maybe a help.
If not? go to Rimfirecentral. Them folks know .22's

What you have is a Stevens 66A. The nail is a repacement for a "breech bolt spring rod" and should be there.
