SD overseas ???

I'm watching the Travel Channel w/ my wife, and my wife says, "I wish we could go to ______." (fill in the blank w/ the location that's being televised at the moment) (Right now the program is on the Caribbean...)
It gets me to thinking: What would be some good SD items (& locations to buy them) that a traveler could pick up in a foreign country where firearms are verboten and TSA won't let you bring your own stuff?
Also, where would one go to find out the weapons & SD laws for other countries?
Thanks in advance for the suggestions...:)

Screwdrivers & the 2oz Handy Can of WD-40 are legal everywhere.;)
And a good SureFire light, too.

If you're going to the Caribean or Bahamas you can telephone the police and ask them. In the Caymans or the Bahamas I carried my dive knife into the country in my dive gear and carried it on my person the whole time along with my Delica (Sebe stayed home).

The only one I had when I was in the Bahamas last summer was a Leatherman Wave. But there were tons of field expedient weapons all over the place. Saps, fistloads, knuckle dusters, sticks, staffs, knives, garottes, etc. can be improvised through many different sources.

You should be able to check in knives to most any country in the world (exception Japan and Singapore).
Knives and similiar items shopld be available for purchase locally. Dump them when you leave.
You should have no problems taking gift items like very pointy lacquer chopsticks, knitting needles, flutes, rolling pins, leather/chain dog leashes, etc...
I must note that many foreign locales are safer than the USA.
Then again, the use of deadly force in a strange land subjects you to their laws if apprehended...

"Screwdrivers & the 2oz Handy Can of WD-40 are legal everywhere."
So how would you use WD-40 in a self-defence situation?

:) Clip the red plastic straw to about one inch in length and superglue it in place. Carry it in outside pocket of cover garment. It works much like a poor man's OC spray. Spray in the same patterns and move in the same manner you would when employing OC. It's pretty easy to get it in someones face & eyes out to about 6-feet or so. And, while not as beautiful a thing as OC, it does get the eyes slammed shut which allows you more time to engage or disengage as neccessary.
The screwdriver, obviously, is a shank. Use it as such.

Anybody know specifically about Ireland? Should I bring my knife, or find one there?

Knives for SD are culturally unacceptable in Ireland. They are also illegal.
Try anything related to a club. Canes are acceptable. A souvenir shillelagh might be acceptable in the west of Ireland. It would look funny in Dublin or Cork.
Good Luck
