Ok, So I bought a BPS several years ago (approx. 10 years ago)...It came with a smoothbore rifle sight slug barrel that says Browning special steel 3 1/2" I also ordered a vent rib bird barrel....That barrel says 2 3/4 and 3" Now I am looking for a cantilever rifled slug barrel. Everything I read says that The 3.5" inch barrels won't fit 3" receivers and vice versa....so how come both of my barrels work fine?

Also, I want to order a rifled slug barrel from American barrel company because they have a fast twist and are half the price of the $400 browning refled cantilever slug barrels. There are two different barrels made by ABC, a short tang version and a long tang version. What is the difference and how do I tell what I need?

Thanks,

Tom

I am not familiar with that barrelmaker, ifyu have a 3.5" receivere(and it seems like you have) tn simply infom the barrelmaker that you need a barrel that will fit that receiver. I have a couple ofm BPS SG and I really like them, I have a Buck for hunting deer etc., and HD. It has the rifle sghts which do fine for any slug ranges you might encounter.

the confusion comes from having a slug barrel for 3.5" and a bird barrel for 3". Everything I've read says this is not possible. I can deal with that. Now I'm confused over whether the receiver is short tang or long tang. I don't even know what that means.
