I've gotten rid of a couple, but I still have the first gun I ever got with my own money, a kit cap and ball single shot, the first semi-auto I got with my own money, a Radom Vis 35, and my first revolver, a Charter Arms Off Duty.

Quite frankly, I don't remember what my first shotgun or rifle were, but I know I still have them, as I've not gotten rid of any long guns.

As for never selling any, I'm currently culling the herd to eliminate some rifles I don't have a strong financial attachement to in order to purchase some firearms that I really want.

However, as for my "first", I learned to shoot on a bolt action .22 (Stevens, I think), which belonged to my father. He still has it, and after I awkwardly broached the subject with him recently he promised that it would be given to me whenever he is ready to part with it. Out of the few guns I do have, it's that one that I don't yet have which I most value.

The first gun that was ever "mine" was a little, used single-shot 20 ga. that I got for my first hunting season at 12 y.o. It wasn't pretty and the forearm had a tendency to fall off but I'd love to fondle that thing again. There's a chance that it's still in my uncle's house somewhere but I haven't inquired. Almost afraid to find out it can't be found.

:( NO

High Standard Sentenial 9 shot revolver. This was the gun in my room when I was in a crib, always stayed in my room loaded growing up. I bought this gun from my dad , mowing yards and such. This is the gun I used to defend myself and sibs one night as a Kid. I made the mistake of loaning to my dad...half -brother sold it for dope. :fire: Relations were strained already, this didn't help. Not much of a gun per se' just some memories, some better than others...Still have a box of Reminton Speedmasters I use in it...sticker is faded but I think I paid .17 for those...

My first was an old crossman air rifle. Broke a long time ago....but still have it. First real gun was a Ruger 10/22. Still got that too. ;)

Only thing I have ever sold was a Ruger PC-9 that was given to me.....really didn't want it in the first place, but it's hard to pass up a free gun. I sold it to fund another project after shooting it very little.

I still have my first, technically- my folks bought me a beautiful little Browning 22 rifle- the autoloader with the tubular mag in the buttstock. Nearly pristine except for the cracked buttstock courtesy of my ex wife who broke it trying to 'tighten the barrel nut'. I glued the stock back together after I finally quit screaming and crying. The first firearm I bought myself is a Browning High Power which I of course still own and carry occasionally as a CCW piece.

Rabbit.

Nope, my first was a bargain basement POS that I sold soon after I got it. Turned that into a P7M8...that I still have ;)

My first gun (a 10/22) is long, long gone.

I have to admit that I just don't understand the "never sell a gun" mentality. What if I'm bored with it? What if I don't really want it anymore? What if it's just gathering dust in the back of the safe and a friend (who'd actually make use of it) offers to buy it? What if I see one I want more?

For example, I have two Glocks right now; one I'd never sell, as it was a gift and therefore has sentimental value, but the other one is just a nondescript chunk of plastic and steel, identical in every respect save its serial number to hundreds of others that get uncrated in Smyrna every day. If somebody really wanted it, and in doing so, provided me with the means to get a different gun that was harder to come by or that I want more, it's a goner. If I miss having it, I can always go buy another one just like it...

Remember: If everyone had the "I never sell a gun!" mindset, then nobody could buy any guns, either. ;)

Not counting airguns, my first was a Ruger GP100 .357. Stainless steel, 4" bbl, adjustable sights.

I still have it, and always will, as long as I have a gun. It's also one of the most accurate centerfire pistols I have fired.

I've traded and sold a lot of guns, including my second which was a Beretta 92FS Stainless. I missed it so bad, I bought another later just like it. Sold that one just before I got married and missed it so bad I bought another Beretta awhile back--this time a 92G Elite II. I customized it enough so that I can't get my money back out of it. I figure that's one way to make sure I don't ever sell/trade it.

My first rifle was a stainless steel Ranch Rifle in .223. It had a black/grey laminated stock. Sold or traded it years ago. No particular attachment there, I never wish I had it back. My second rifle was a Colt AR-15 HB Match Target. I traded it for an AR-10 that I traded for something else, etc. I miss that Colt. It was a nice rifle.

My first shotgun was a Winchester 1300 Defender. I gave that to my sister and her family years back. I've only owned two scatterguns and still have the second, an 870 Marine Magnum.

Guns I plan to keep forever.

Ruger GP100--first gun
Beretta 92G Elite II
CZ 452 Ultra Lux .22
SA-85M (Hungarian Semi-Auto AK)--Lisa gave me this on my first birthday after we got married.
Model 38 Swedish Mauser--another birthday present from Lisa
Beeman R7 .177 Air Rifle--R7 owners will understand. This is also the only one of my guns that has a name.
Sheridan Air Rifle--The folks gave me this for my last birthday before I moved out--my dad refinished the stock while I was away at college.

If we're talking airguns, yes, I still have my Crossman 760. Killed pigeons with it too. I also have my Remington M700 BDL in 30-06 too.

First gun I bought was a Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC - still have it! With all the guns I've had, only gotten rid of 4. ! is still in the family (brother) though.

I still have my first, a S&W 586 .357. I'm about to put it's original grips back on and move it from the bedroom safe to the gun closet downstairs. It is the only one I'm "attached" to that I can say I would never sell.

First gun I paid for (with wages from delivering papers) was a Marlin 60 that my dad actually bought. It went back in circulation when I realized that I just wasted alot of bullets with it.
The first gun I actually bought was the most ugliest Mooseburg 500 they ever made. It still goes hunting with me sometimes. I've always said I would dress her up with new checkered stocks and ribbed barrel, but since I only paid $80 for it brand new I just can't see spending 3 to 4 times that price just to pretty her up.

First Rifle: Marlin model 60. I'll never let that thing go

First handgun: Glock 19. Bought it because of the Glock hype. Never got used to the trigger or the 'blocky' feel to it. Sold it. Moved on to Kimber, Beretta, and Sig Sauer.

I haven't owned as many guns as many of you, but I've only sold one. I bought a break-action Rexio 45LC/.410 from a friend. Not really because I wanted it (It was a POS) but because he REALLY needed the money and was too proud to just take money from me as a gift. I sold it to some guy at a gun show 3 months later.

I don't have anything against the idea of selling a gun (Tamara summed it up pretty well), but I don't tend to buy things I won't want to keep. I do have the first revolver and rifle I bought. I love my Marlin 1894C, and the Taurus 617S fits my wife's hand perfectly, so it stays.

I not only have my "first" but am still shooting with them. Both are .22's. First handgun is a semi-auto Hi-Standard Sport King I got new for around $20. I don't shoot it a lot as I have some wheel guns I enjoy more. I got when I was 21. The first long gun is a J.C. Higgins (Sears) model 101.13 with a G-4 Weaver scope on it. Got it when I was 16. It was also about $20. Together we "harvested" many woodchucks. I refinished the stock on the long gun two winters ago and it looks better than new. I had it to the range last week and had 10 shot groups at 25 yards that I could cover with a quarter.

Over the years I've added to the collection but have a warm spot in the heart for both.
I'm sure some will ask, "How old NRA Instructor?" Mighty old. I wouldn't want to carry the M-1 around all day anymore but I'm still target shooting and instructing.

My first gun was also my Dad's first gun. Whenever I have a kid, it will be his/her first gun too. It's a Winchester Model 72A. A bolt action .22.

edit to add: My first handgun should be sold by Sunday so I can get a different one!

I still have my first gun (an H&K USP40 compact). I'm still a relative "n00b" when it comes to firearms and I've only had it about a year and a half but I don't plan on ever getting rid of it. I hope to someday pass it down to my kids.

The first gun I bought for myself was a Colt Commander in .38 Super. Still have it, still shoot it whenever I can.
It passes its 30th birthday this year. I'm a tad older than that.

My first pistol was a Ruger MK II .22 pistol with a 4" tapered barrel, blue. Purchased for me by my dad when I was a teenager.

I still have it, and doubt I'll ever sell it. Likely pass it along to one of my boys when they're old enough.
