Emerson or Chris Reeve

I need some opinions on the large sebenza, commander, and cqc-11. I carry a small sebenza at work. I would like something a little bigger for camping/hunting and have narrowed it down to these three, price not being a concern. Thoughts?

I love my commander, carried it for a month, untill I got my Super CQC-7.
All my Emersons are high quality, lock up like a bank vault, and shaving sharp even after a few weeks of use. I'm ordering my second Super 7 this week, and a second Commander shortly after that.
The commander would do you well, the tip is strong. I really like the double recurve. It feels like a medium sized fixed blade when you open it, feels much larger than 3.75".

Not an Emerson fan. I'd take the Sebenza given your choices.

I finally gave up trying to decide on which larger folder to buy and bought a Reeve 4" Mountaineer for the times I don't want to carry my old 6" Case XX. Mine is 7 ounces plus 2 more for the sheath.
Love both of my small Sebenzas. One is used daily and the other stays clean for dressier occasions.
I know, I'm no help. At heart I suppose I don't like folders.

I forgot: You can buy a pair or a trio of Emersons for the price of one Sebenza, and they'll do everything the Seb can....

If the price difference doesnt bother you , go for the Sebenza. It is more solid , but it should be , its twice the price. The HD7 gives the Sebby a run for its money.
At one time I had 8 Emersons and 3 Sebenza's....now I have none as I use something else.

I own a large bg42 sebenza and an emerson folding karambit. I've had the sebenza for about 8 years and want to like it more than I do. It's a nice knife for sure with great build quality, but doesn't do anything special for me. The folding karambit has a significantly short blade to handle ratio but it has IMHO the single most important advancement in folding knives in a long while - which is the wave. I will not buy another knife that doesn't have one, whether it be emerson or spyderco.
As far as I'm concerned, the wave feature makes a folder easier to carry than a small fixed blade and almost as easy to deploy.
When compared to the sebenza, the cqc11 has a longer blade, a more ergonomic handle, a choil (?), a non-slip handle, the wave feature and is less expensive. Unfortunately, it feels cheaper too.
Actually, after looking at this knife, never mind:

I don't care for Emersons. I'd go with the Sebenza. I have a large Sebenza that was my daily carry knife for a long time. It still locks up as tight as the day I got it. I always thought it was an ideal sized knife, too. Big enough to be seriously useful, but not too big for comfortable pocket carry.

own the emerson HD-7, and a small classic sebenza. love both. the seb is my EDC at work (in a corporate office) as my "gentlemans knife" and my emerson is my EDC the rest of the time, more for the "self-defense" aspect (quick draws). the seb is definitely higher quality, although the HD-7 is no slouch. i love the simplicity and the nice ti slab on the side.
i guess youd have to think more on what youll really be using it for, and consider the ergonomics, type of grind, maintenance, s30v vs. 154cm etc.
i like the classic seb over the newer blade type. i like the new cqc-15 over the commander, its basically a commander but with a tanto point. ill be getting a large classic seb and an emerson super karambit at some point.

I have had a sebenza in my pocket for nearly a decade now and it is as sharp and strong as the day I got it. I use it for everything andhave not been gentle with it by any means and it works perfectly. The sebenza is so simple, and the fact that you can disassemble it wth an Allen wrench is a huge plus for me. Emerson makes avoid knife, but if you are looking for aknife to last you a lifetime, the sebenza is a better choice.

I carry a small Sebenza every day.
I frequently handle Emersons (just sold 5 to one store and 3 to another).
I'm a proponent of handy folder+handy fixed blade combinations for work/play in the woods. So, since you've got the handy folder covered, why not the handy fixed blade instead of the larger sebenza?

Thanks. I followed some of all of the advise. I went with a large seb and the cqc-11.
hso- I'm with you on the folder and fixed. I carry my 5" Randall #3 or my model 5 with me anytime I'm out of the city.
