Taiwan (gun) news

A few quickies:
First, was watching the news and saw that a man and his family was held at knifepoint while the in-home invasion robbers took everything except the couch they were sitting on. So much for the steel door theory... They simply rang the doorbell, and the owner opened...
My gf's comments? "I guess guns in the home would have helped!!" (Man I love my gf)
Second;
There are too many "holes" in the harbors of taiwan, my gf's uncle is a ship captain and he brings in stuff from China all the time, without going through customs.. with this on the rise, the Taiwan SWAT says that recently, they have been outgunned; a nice steady inflow of AK's and SKS's from China seems to be on the rise; and of course, regardless what you think of the 7.62x39 round, a .45ACP or the 9mm (that the cops standardized on) is no match.. SWAT budget keeps going up to compensate..
(sigh) when will they learn?

Maybe Taiwan should hire Sarah Brady as a consultant. She could come over and get everything straightened out with a nice new waiting period law! That should take care of all that smuggling.

With the proximity of Taiwan to china, I can only imagine how much a chinese sks on the taiwan black market costs...
I would suspect on the order of $50...
Sarah as consultant would be great...

Well, if you were China, who doesn't really like Taiwan all that much, what better way to cause major problems than to pass out a few million free AK's/SKS's to the locals and let them wreak havoc. Cheaper than invading.

Didn't this happen about five years ago in Kali? IIRC, a large shipment of smuggled full-auto Chinese AK-47s were seized. Circumstances suggested that the guns were destined for gang-bangers, again, IIRC.

HKmp5sd and ArmsAkimber, think a little bit about what you're saying -- that crime and unrest are caused by the easy availability of guns. Sorry, I don't buy this line when it's peddled by Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer, and I'm not going to buy it here.

I don't buy the argument that availability of firearms causes crime/unrest. I believe just the opposite. The point I (poorly) made was on the the authoritarian attituted evident on the part of Chinese leadership.

"We'll just ship over a few tons of machine guns over to the stupid running dog capitalist Americans, and they'll be so preoccupied with killing each other, they won't even notice our above ground neutron bomb tests! He he!"

Get my point? :D

Yes. That's better.

David Roberson,
I agree that crime and unrest are NOT caused by the easy availability of guns TO law abiding citizens just as the easy availability of drugs doesn't cause more drug addicts.
However, if I wanted to disrupt a small nation, would not arming the criminal population in a country that does not allow legal ownership to everyone else, cause a wave of violence?

It might. However, your previous post made no mention of providing guns only to criminals; you simply said "what better way to cause major problems than to pass out a few million free AK's/SKS's to the locals." There's an extremely large difference.
That said, I'll assume that your first post isn't really an accurate expression of your views, and that you're not really Diane Feinstein with a screen name.

Thanks, I appreciate that. :)

Simply impossible for civilians to have guns in Taiwan. Don't those people know it's outlawed and a crime? Perhaps a few English Bobbys can go over there to restore order and show them how to police a gun free society.
